Installing TGPX today

I thought I would finally give it a go. Cross your fingers for me. :D

Anyone else using with specific tips or tricks to share?

Ramster 2008-01-29 12:23 PM

Never tried it but I know some friends that did. They love it but said the templates take a bit getting use to.

Toby 2008-01-29 01:27 PM

My newest TGP uses TGPX. Yes, the template language is a bit of a learning curve. If you've previously used Auto Gallery it will be a little easier.

No specific tips or tricks to pass on. The documentation seems to be fairly comprehensive. I'll likely be migrating my existing Auto Gallery Pro TGP's over to TGPX as time allows.

Evil Chris 2008-01-29 02:23 PM

Toby, why migrate? Unless you need your older TGPs to do things they don't already do.

I ask because I have several AGP TGPs running, and it never really crossed my mind to "upgrade" them to TGPX.

A fair question. If I were not going to make any major changes I'd likely just leave them as is. JMB has a utility to import the AGP text database into a MySQL database for TGPX. That will allow me to build custom queries to create some specialty archive pages, plus a number other things that involve ranking thumbs by popularity (clicks) that aren't possible with a text database.

The ultimate goal of all of that is to get more clicks per surfer, and more clicks to the most productive galleries.

Evil Chris 2008-01-29 03:29 PM

Yes I suppose that's a good reason to upgrade.

As for my install, I'm struggling a little. Hopefully I'll iron things out here.

smutguy 2008-01-29 04:27 PM

Good luck with the install..

wanna post a link when you have it up and running?

Tommy 2008-01-29 05:33 PM

I just had it installed the other day

am trying to get use to it

input a few hundred urls and making thumbs now, but its gonna take a few weeks to make 4 or 5 thousand thumbs

I really expected it to make thumbs a lot faster

I would love to get with someone on the phone for a few walkthrus on some things if anyone is feeling generous tomorrow

Vivaldi 2008-01-30 04:02 AM

I hope You guys don't make Your thumbs!? use TGPX gallery scanner to do if for You. it's not perfect but it works ... example: out of 35.000 galleries added scanner could not manage to make 5.000 ... unless You have something against the thumbs it makes :-)

forgot to add ... installation is easy but those damn templates are hard to handle at the beginning

spacemanspiff 2008-01-30 09:24 AM

I've been using AutoGallery SQL for a couple of years and I THINK I have a handle on the templates. I still find myself going "ahh, so that's what that's for" every now and then.

If anyone needs help, hit me up. Not saying I'm an expert (former spurt?), but I'll do what I can.

Evil Chris 2008-01-30 11:07 AM

I should have it working sometime today, but no design to speak of.

Alex B 2008-01-30 12:30 PM

Tommy, if it takes too long for it to make thumbs, maybe the server is under a bit higher load, or swapping too much (if you don't have enough RAM in your box) or just the galleries that it goes through are responding slow. When it works slow, it makes one thumb in some 5-10s, when it works OK it can go through few in 1s

Tommy 2008-01-31 09:45 AM

well thats the only way I see to make thumbs, one at a time

I am having a few problems

I put in around 500 gallerys and the script showed them in the order I put them in or maybe by sponsor

and I kept hitting rebuid page and after it cycled through some of the gallerys and then it wouldnt change them anymore

Overall 453
Used 120
Holding 333

can someone help me please, pretty please

spacemanspiff 2008-01-31 10:52 AM

I haven't used TGPX, but in Autogallery SQL, it works like this:

Build Pages - only uses "used" galleries to build the pages and uses "holding" galleries to fill in if there are not enough used galleries.

Build Pages with New - Only uses "approved" galleries, fills in with used and holding galleries if there are not enough approved galleries.

If you're just trying to randomize the galleries on the page, look at shuffle.cgi if TGPX has it (has to be run from the command line).

If anyone has used AG SQL and TGPX, I'd love to know how similar they are.

Use the gallery scanner to make thumbs. Create a scan job to review the desired galleries and check the box in Processing Options to make thumbs for galleries without them.

You'll likely still need to re-crop some of the thumbs one at a time, as the script center-crops an arbitrary image from the gallery. But still far faster than doing thousands of thumbs manually.

Alex B 2008-01-31 12:46 PM

Tommy, spend some (actually a lot) time to read documentation at ...tgpx/admin/docs/ , or at least pages like TGP Page Templates & Page Building Overview for start. From those numbers I see that you have used all your galleries and have no more left, since you were rebuliding page over and over and template on that page was pulling new galleries over and over again.

"Usable" galleries (those that can be displayed, and now only speaking about sponsors galleries or those that you have entered, called Permanent in tgpx) can have Approved status (free to be used, but not displaying anywhere), Used (those that are currently being displayed, Holding (those that are not being used anymore and waiting to return to Approved galleries). The last ones go back to Approved when holding period expires. You can set it up in General Settings - Permanent Holding Period and units are days.

You should ckeck out how templates work, and what is the difference of Build and Build With New. There is just tooooo much to write about it here :-)

Hey Tommy

I sent you a couple PMs hope the information this helps you

Evil Chris 2008-02-01 02:34 PM

After only a couple of snags, I'm up and running.
Now I'm playing with it and trying to learn the templates.

So far I think TGPX is fairly solid. Many things about it I need to learn however.

secretagentwilly 2008-02-02 10:59 AM

TGPX is awesome...I've run a few sites with it...I've posted on the board before that Jeremy, the guy that owns JMBSoft is pretty solid and provides great customer service. I've got a little experience with the template system if you might want any help but your best support is the JMBSoft support forum...everyone has already almost everything I can think of and it's explained how to do it...the only issue I had was with my old host's regulation on the cron jobs. I never could get them to work on cpanel hosting. Best of luck.

thewiz 2008-10-16 11:21 PM

Ok I'm waiting for a reply from support but maybe you guys may know whats happening! TGPX works great up till I try and use the scanner and it seems like its running but it stays on the #1 gallery and no further plus if I go to review new galleries and click crop thumb this error comes up Fatal error: Cannot use object of type pageparser as array in /home/blogwiz/public_html/nudebabedump/tgpx/includes/common.php on line 40
and this is line 40
unset ($this['parser']);

Maybe someone had this happen and found the fix please help!

Twiceshy 2008-10-17 01:50 AM

The only thing that i can think of that will cause this error is if the common.php file was not uploaded in binary mode. When i did my first install i had the same problem make sure your ftp client is set to binary mode this should fix your problem

Thanks for trying but it didn't help I'm still getting this error

Invalid server response

Fatal error: Cannot use object of type pageparser as array in /home/blogwiz/public_html/nudebabedump/tgpx/includes/common.php on line 40

well I thought it was my php version so I checked with my hosting and they said our version is CLI version which it says you need! I have checked the common.php file but I'm not sure what would be causing it!

jamie55 2008-10-18 12:21 PM

Only thing that bugs me a bit about TGPX, you can't "mass-change" a bunch of galleries' categories at once. You have to change them manually each one!

- Jamie

Vivaldi 2008-11-10 07:16 AM

sorry for late replay but ... "mass-change" You can do it but You have to watch out cause once You do it it will change all galleries with similar either category or sponsor depending of Your search for galleries You have done. "mass-change" button is the third one when Your changing something at just one gallery!

Tommy 2008-11-10 05:48 PM

I am looking all over the place and I cant find that mass change button

where exactly is this ??
