Submitting freesites is scary.....

I've submitted my first site to 35 LLs and it scared the pants off me! Whilst I know that LL owners are human, (most of them anyway :D), the fear of screwing something up the first time was huge. The prospect of being blacklisted for a mistake or wasting a busty LL reviewer's time made the process very nerve-shredding.

I want to say a special "THANKS" to everyone who has helped me get this far, especially those that I've learned from, or have given feedback, and of course to GG&J for this fantastic forum.

As usual I have some questions:

1. Categories: My first site featured an amateur redhead shaving. I went with the amateur category when submitting. Do LL reviewers usually just move the submittal to whichever category they prefer, or do some reject for this?

2. I can't remember what the second question was. Sorry.
|dizzy|

Anyway, thanks to everyone again for the great advice and tips. I have ten more sites all ready to go, and I'm really enjoying building so far. No templates should be used and no sneaky tactics will EVER be used.
I do plan to expand and change my submittal list as I develop, and I like the idea of supporting smaller LLs.

An extra special thanks to those that have already got my site listed, and those that have let me become a partner already. Much appreciated!
:)

I'd suggest that the next time, since you're new & scared of fucking something up, cut down on the number of Link Lists that you're submitting too - maybe 8 or 12 - and get the feel for what you're doing before it gets to confusing or out of control.

As far as the category, most will leave it there as long as they feel it's appropriate for the category you submitted it too.

Surfn 2006-02-10 08:27 AM

If I remember correctly you submitted fine. But then I don't send out my Terminators on the first fuck up :D

Thanks for the advice, GG.
The reality of building and submitting freesites is so far away from what I'd imagined it to be. Jeez, and to think that I arrived here thinking I was going to be running my own LL pretty soon!

surfn - you are scary! Submitting to surfn's was scary, and seeing that you'd posted in this thread was even more scary.
:D

Sincere thanks for all you've done so far.
:)

Yes every day I have to shorten my description for it to go through at Surfn's link list

Fred

KG Gary 2006-02-10 10:24 AM

wazza - don't make him any more angry!

Shade - :D I want less scary not more scary!

Fred - Ha! What can I say, apart from "I'm an idiot".

Surfn's description length caught me out a few times, as did the adding the number of pics/pages thing, but it's all cool.
:)

Surfn 2006-02-10 10:26 AM

Well I had it set to a normal length and my submits were filled with redundant and non descriptive words. So I limit it to 50 characters and if I see it needs something I add it. No need for something like "Hot sexy amateur on her sexy knees giving a sexy guy head" when "Amateur slut giving deep throat sex" will do. :)

Some times I give them names according to my SE results :D

That's a leftover feature from converting a tgp script. :)

So I can use that description for all my sites? |couch|

Xeno 2006-02-10 10:40 AM

Breathe breathe...hehe...anyways, try not to get scared, but see things as a learning (and ongoing) experience. As GG said, start off with a few then get into the groove of things and move on to another batch. As for the category part of your question, everyone will do whatever they think is appropriate. For myself, I will usually put the submission on hold and send a quick email off to the webmaster to inform them I am moving their site to another category and to update the recip banner. Once done I will do a check and then go from there. I've seen it where the site had the correct recip banner but submitted to the wrong category so I just changed the submission on the spot to the matching cat...

Over time you will get used to it and you will get to know several link list and directory webmasters and how they work...a benefit to you :)

I'll list one with that description then I will invoke me editorial prerogative :D

MrYum 2006-02-10 10:59 AM

No worries Gary...public flogging went out a looong time ago...a couple weeks at least :D

Nah, you'll find most of the folks here are quite reasonable and realize sometimes mistakes happen |thumb

I simply move submits if I think they'd fit better in another category. I also adjust descriptions as needed.

Hang in there...you're off to a very good start |thumb

ponygirl 2006-02-10 11:03 AM

I still hold my breath every time I hit the submit button :D

It's good to have a presence on the board, tho - if people know who you are they're less likely just to hit that delete button (I hope :))

Ponygirl

oh and ps - if we're going to be picturing reviewers in their underwear, we need PICS :D

Me too, in fact if I recall correctly, the last time I submitted to PonyGirl I fucked up the description, whoops... :D

But as long as the LL owner's know you're an honest submitter they accept honest mistakes. Many will even email you to let you know, so you can change it before other reviewers see it.

Just keep doing what you're doing. |thumb

Cleo 2006-02-10 12:23 PM

I always submit my stuff with my eyes closed so as not to be frightened

KG Gary 2006-02-10 06:54 PM

Thanks for all of the replies and advice, guys and gals.
Actually, I should try and stop saying "thanks" all the time, I seem to type it in almost every post.
One last time - THANKS EVERYONE!
:)

Okay, I have a freesite to check over before the next submit. Woo Hoo!
I love you all.
In a way.
:D

Xeno 2006-02-10 07:59 PM

lol...no worries KG....I (and we) look forward to seeing your next site :)

swedguy 2006-02-10 11:00 PM

Check your email :)

KG Gary 2006-02-11 03:42 AM

Thanks swedguy. I'll avoid that problem in the future.

You still have the banners hotlinked on that site.

Might want to check Porn Kings Terms of Service so you're not breaking it. Many sponsors doesn't allow it.

KG Gary 2006-02-11 08:45 PM

Thanks for the heads-up, Swedguy. I'm a little confused though....
I was under the impression that some sponsors prefer you to hotlink their banners etc, for tracking purposes or something.
With this particular PornKings one the link was pre-made with the IMG SRC tag linking to their server.

I actually thought that I'd somehow break their T&C by not hotlinking.
Hmmmmm.

Couple of questions then......

1. I'd definately prefer not to hotlink unless I have to. Should I always host things myself?

2. Will it be okay to go and change that banner now even though it's already listed on quite a few Link Lists?

I'm poised to change it.........eagerly waiting.......
:)

Thanks! I'm on the case....
