Friday February 3rd (aka I've Got Nothing)

Morning! |waves|

Spent most of yesterday with Pagan holding my hand as I relearn TGPX - after 4 hours of work we had TWO thumbs/galleries listed |thumb

More of the same today, but I do have to run my mom down to the Indian reservation so she can buy smokes |banghead|

It's a balmy 18°F here & the fire is roaring!

Trying to wake up...

My iPhone goes into silent mode between midnight and 9 am. Someone with a Texas phone number sent e a bunch of text messages asking about web design in the middle of the night. As soon as I'm a bit more awake going to text them back.

Other than that doing Foxy's update.

Come to Finland... we are just hovering around freezing!! Nice and warm compared to 18F!!

4 hours but you also learned a lot about the script. It will go so much faster now.

Just got back the results from my first ever blood donation last week. I'm A+ blood type.
Strange I didn't know that until now.

Cholesterol, pulse, blood pressure all optimal. So that's one good thing so far today...

Done nothing useful today. Appointment with the nurse for my foot and picked up a prescription. Other than that Jack Shit!

Yesterday almost as bad, but since I had dialysis which killed the afternoon and evening, at least I had a bit of an excuse.

Am about to dig out my Vista laptop because it has a good screen and I may make it my Amazon TV box.

Gmail is dumping Windows XP and Vista

Oh! Say it ain't so!! What will all those XP users do now? Go back to Hotmail? Seriously, though the release does mention that using the older operating systems does pose a security risk. Guess that means the tiny netbook I brought to Finland 6 years ago will now be officially retired.

Actually other way about. New viruses/hacking methods are usually aimed at the newest version of Windows and often simply don't work on the older ones.

However as I only really intend to use the Vista box for watching TV on Amazon and possibly DVDs, it does not matter either way. (|couch| Because I'll be using the XP computer for serious work.)

Sigh.. you sound like I did when my beloved little Canadian-made 1996 Geo Metro, with barely 110,000 miles on it had a transmission problem in 2009. 45 miles per gallon... City driving. Closer to 50 out in the country. I had that car towed to the only transmission shop in the area who had to deliver some extremely sad news. Nobody in the state of Texas or the surrounding states even had a transmission for that car anymore - for any price. The shop owner really went to bat for me, calling every junk yard in 4 states - about a 1200 mile radius. Nothing.

To make it worse, Texas had a special program going on where I could have gotten a nice chunk of change for trading in my car, if it got less than 40 miles per gallon. Of course, my little snowball was not eligible for that deal. I ended up selling it for parts for $200.

Yes, viruses do attack the newer OS' out there, but they are also patched pretty quick. My Chrome is updated frequently, and so are my virus and malware protection. (Do you have anti-ransomware protection on your computer?). But see, you are also probably going to have to be happy with the crumbs that will still work on XP -- there is no free upgrade path anymore, nor is there a direct path. Your hardware is probably not capable of running anything newer (like my Netbook). It's like owing a 1996 Geo Metro and having a transmission problem. I loved my little Netbook. It was so cute and tiny. I could carry it in my purse. BUT, it is agonizingly slow compared to my current machine. I cannot even imagine trying to do any work, much less serious work, on that machine any longer.

No, one big difference: You loved the Metro, I cannot stand Windows of any flavour. I'd gladly ditch the lot if I could. The only reason I use XP is that I need the money. Unlike the rich people who post here, who are making so much money webmastering that they can afford to dump a few sales (!), I need every possible surfer on board and buying. So l have to use XP so that I know that my sites are visible to all.

It is all right for you rich bastards making millions from porn, you can use W10 and loose a few dollars, me I Gota get every sale possible (Ecchi goes on grumbling about his lot in life.......)

Although I am shocked to hear that you could not find a part for a 1996 car, even if it was (to you) a foreign car. In Britain, with a bit of effort, you can find just about any part for any car however old. Cars tend to go from "modern" to "classic" without having to go through the "old" and "junk" stages in England.
