Several Link Lists, Including myself, separates Asian and Teen into
Asian
Asian-Hardcore
Teen
Teen-Hardcore

What is the philosofy behind that? (Besides 42)

Breaking categories down is good for the surfer and good for SEO. Some surfers want to see naked teens or even non-nude teens, but don't want to see the little angels with a giant black cock buried in their asshole. And you can better tune a page for SEO when it has fewer variables/niches.

Given how Google treats adult content these days is there really any reward for spending much time on all but the basic SEO?

I honestly have no idea.

I thought it was this, so the theory then is that the other categories doesn't sort into hard and soft? :)

I have some TGP's that is pure soft, some mixed and some niche.
I guess this is the way to go?
They have started to convert, but for me it's to early to draw conclusions.

Indian
Indian hardcore
and so on, so I wondered if there was anything particular special with those two categories.
I guess it is because Teens and Asians are so big in porn

I *think* one of the original reasons the splitting of categories happened in the old days was that the primary category pages were loaded with links, so the big site owners began breaking the popular categories for submitters into softcore and hardcore. Those of us who came along later simply followed the path forged by Greenie, Richard, Tommy, etc. The categories that weren't heavily promoted were never overflowing, so there wasn't a need to split them.

I have no intention of merging teen and teen hardcore at my place either.

I used to break them down like that because I had too many existing links in the general category.
