Link List newb

Well I guess you could call me a linklist newb, I have been blogging for a year now and it went ok to say the least,.. Now I want to get into link lists... I got a few question :)

1. What is a good link list script?
2. What are the basics that I need to know when I set up a link lists
3. What thinks should i absolutely NOT do:P?

Hope you guys can help me out with these questions, would be very appreciated!

I still like the 100 freesites sugestion.

Build 100 freesites before you open a linklist. That way you'll have plenty of experience and an idea of what kind of rules to set-up and how you'd like yours to work (ordered by date, alpha, etc..)

The other benefit to that is that when you open you'll have 100 freesites of your own ready to list and traffic generated to the freesites can be directed to your new linklist via the 3rd outgoing link per page.

I went with Dragon List http://www.dragonscripts.com/ after looking at about a dozen different scripts. To me, it is by far the best, and geared toward the needs of adult webmasters.

Even before you start the list, you can make use of the script by putting in the freesites you build, as well as putting in sponsor sites. Just having a database set up with your own sites makes life easier, and when you get to the "100 sites" that Preacher mentioned, you'll appreciate the organization that a php/mysql script can give you.

That's what I have been doing, and hope to open mine for submissions soon.

I started a link list pretty much right away and in the beginning I had a lot of trouble with it because I didn't really have the knowledge I needed to make it function properly. Definately build a bunch of free sites before getting into link lists, it will save You a lot of grey hairs!

I have build even more than 100 free sites, opened up a Link List and still don`t know what to do :)
lol

ATM I don't have money to buy a 350$ license ghehe, so I was wondering, what scripts did you start out with are there any decent free scripts? Xallow, what did you use or did you do it by hand?

I did it by hand, kinda built my own script and have improved on it over time, I am still using it.

That would be the other option, create your own script. Though it would probably be like mine, never gets finished.

Sure wouldn't do it by hand, that's how i started, was a pain in the butt and big time consumer.

Course you already know my opinion on the whole idea ..:)

Check out LinkX at JMBsoft.com. It's not free, but for $60 it might as wells be. It has a lot of capabilities of the pricier scripts. It is a little tougher in the design department, but once you learn how things are done, it's not that bad.

Honestly... getting started on a links list is just like any other business, it is going to take a few $$$ and A LOT of work to get going. Also, link list will not make you a fortune over night! They take time to build up the necessary traffic to make them productive.

Maybe you can try going to the linklists that you like and see if they're running any scripts. After a while, you're likely to notice that it's only a few link lists that are widely used.

Of course, you're still going to have to branch out and differentiate yourself from all the other linklists that use the same script.

Gonna poke around a little and check out what fits me etc, and im not one of them without patience so i'll be fine I guess, and besides if i'd want to make a fortune overnight i'd be doing a bank robbery :D thanks for all the advice guys
