Flash and free sites.

What is the general rule on flash on free site's. It' s plugin but are plugin's allowed etc. I was thinking of putting a site with flash banners headers but wanted to check before I worked it.
Thanks

Im not a LL owner (yet), but I think flash would be a no no on free-sites.

yup i agree... dont put flash on freesites... there are still lot of dialup users and as u know it takes time for the flash to load, and with all the pics on the freesites, it will just drive surfers away.. just an opinion!

Some people use the flash banners - its not really that big a deal but for sales (because of the dialup users) I would stick to standard graphics - of course you can resize the banners to get around the standard ad-blockers these days

Flash is iffy like Linkster said because 1) for people on dialup it can take too long to load 2) some people feel uncomfortable about downloading/installing plugins 3) it raises your bandwidth cost a tad.

BUT...Flash *might* improve your sales with surfers on DSL/cable who's used to surfing Flash-enhanced sites. Also keep in mind although alot of people are still on dialup, now there are more people on broadband.

It would be cool if surfers could choose between a flash version and low-bandwidth version of the free site -- for builders that want to go that extra 10 miles to spice up their sites. On the warning page, you'd have: ENTER XXXX (Flash Version) and ENTER HERE (Regular Version).

As a huge Flash fan, I naturally feel I should say put it up, but that might not be the case. These guys are right with the load time and such, though the plugin for Flash isn't really a huge deal unless you are programming in Flash MX 2004, the actionscript is not backwards compatable. Otherwise, almost every browser comes with the Flash Player 6 or below.

Halfdeck seems to have the right idea with the choice, but if I were to offer that I would make the entire 'Flash Side' to be Flash. It would seem to be a waste to make an entire new page to just add a few Flash banners and such.....if you're going to do it, might as well do it big no? Maybe thats just me |rasta|

May the porn gods smile upon ya!
