Firefox 2 is out
 

It is a great browser... some plugins have to be reinstalled tho but it is worth the hassle.


I saw this post on another board and it made me download and install it asap.

i use firefox to review, since i use that one, i didnt got shit in my puter anymore, normally firefox gives me a message that there is a new download, i didnt got it now, what i also like in firefox and a other person ponted me on that, when i handcheck ones a year the linksites, i can open at least 100 sites at the same time, which is pretty cool i think, gonna check the update, thanks digi:)

Sure.. just realized i had like 30+ tabs open accidentally and it didn't slow me down it is a cute feature :)

For Safari users Saft does this and more.

Firefox is really turning into a great browser but I only use it for a few things like reviewing and geek work.

One of my favorite Firefox features is having multiple user profiles. I have one for reviewing that doesn't block popups and asks before accepting cookies. Then I have another one that blocks popups and accepts all cookies without asking.

Not sure if you can do this on other OSs but under OSX you can have more then one copy of Firefox running at the same time with different settings for each copy.

I'm still running nice and stable on 1.5...with developer extensions and session saver. Think I'll wait til the new one gets shaken out a bit before upgrading.

That said, about the only time I open IE anymore is to test my own pages. Other than that, it's FF all the way |thumb

I've owned one since they came out...

Make that at least four. Also owned one since the 1984 commercial. (By 1988 I even had a DynaMac--it was an SE/30 in a black portable shell). I've always had several Macs around since then, and it's my personal/portable computer of choice.

Saft is not free... I tried running both of them and the new beta version crashed. I had to delete the old one and haven't had a single crash yet due to well known memory leaks in the past. |thumb

Add me please and we make five :D |boobies| I have a mini mac only but it's great, PPC.

I still use Mozilla 1.7.12, as my browser client of choice. I really can't see any point in upgrading to Firefox, other then a few new bells and whistles. :)

I didn't realize that Firefox had bells and whistled too.

Is there a way to turn off the bells and stop the whistling?

I know the first thing I do when I install ICQ is turn off all its sounds.

Why is the new Firefox so great?

I have the old one installed and I find it's just another browser.
I still use IE 99.9% of the time.

Or is the Firefox movement just to stick it to Microsoft?

There have been several security hole bug fixes since Mozilla 1.7.12. The current version of the suite (it's now called SeaMonkey) is SeaMonkey 1.0.2. Same as the Mozilla suite except the junk mail filter doesn't seem to work as well, and of course you'll have to re-install your extensions. But as a long time Mozilla user (and Netscape 4.x before that), I'm perfectly happy with it.

Oh nice one lassiter. I had no idea that the community coders had carried on the mozilla project, after Moz dropped it for firefox. Do you know if SeaMonkey has the ability to intergrate the email db if I wanted to port if from Moz to SM?

Being a creature of habit, I'd love to setup SM, but porting stuff is something that seems like a bit of a headache to me. :)

I just sent it to my default Mozilla profile during setup and it grabbed everything quite nicely. I've heard tales that some folks didn't find it that seamless but it worked fine for me. I had a momentary panic when I realized somethings weren't working but all my problems were traceable to needing to re-install some extensions, which also worked fast and effortlessly.

There are still some rough spots compared to Mozilla - an intermittent, minor mail window bug (which is mentioned in the "known issues" file) and the relatively weak junk mail filter (which isn't mentioned) - but I too am very happy that the suite will continue, under whatever name.

Firefox was originally a hard choice for me, but I was just having too many problems with IE getting fatal errors and shutting down. And of course all the wonderful security flaws it had for the longest time.

I switched and was happy after a few weeks. the tabbed browsing is nice, and I find there isn't as much of a system lag when flipping between windows and doing 10 things at once (like freesite submits).
