It's great to see a sponsor doing some quality search engine spamming!

Those hidden links are so clever, we should all do it!

No Unfortunately Mr Yum.. it is still an all to common practice..

Some call it "black hat"... I call it "Dunce Cap"!

The really bad part is that other, possibly 'well-meaning' people like Camchoice and reianicio, can get their sites banned when Google discovers and drops that 80-odd domains that this "sponsor has linked in that way.. and discover them they will.. :(

Yep DD, I learned this one the hard way about 4 years ago. Got some bad advice from someone I trusted and didn't know any better at the time...live and learn.

It is one of the things I look for when doing site reviews...and only run across once in a while. So more than a bit surprised to see a sponsor using 'Dunce Cap' techniques |crazy|

Im lost, could you explain to me where those hidden links are and the technique you are talking about. |bow| please tell me

MrYum 2006-02-04 10:48 AM

Looks like they've removed the links now...though there are still signs in the code. Given that there are folks new to the biz who haven't heard of it, I hesitate to post specifics...wouldn't want to give anyone bad ideas |badidea|

Feel free to hit me on pm Camchoice if you'd like a bit more detail :)

Do a site:xxxxxxx.com in Google and look at the cache.

Link to them and you'll be linking into a bad neighborhood.

As the others have said/intimated... you should ALWAYS investigate who you are linking to.

Especially the people that post here, and post just a url? or post NO url.. begging for trades.. Most of them I wouldn't go near if they were the last page on earth.

You can see what Google wants and doesnt want here - http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

* Avoid hidden text or hidden links.

One of the quickest and easiest things to do to detect possible shonky linking is do a 'cntrl-A' on the page they want you to link to... It highlights the whole page and will usually show you any hidden links at the bottom of the page.

IMO these Team not-so-Perfecto guys are the worse.. have a look back at any of their posts or URLS you will find the same stuff cross linked and hidden linked.

They have 100s of these domains -
http://pornstarspov.com/ - (if you dont see the hidden stuff as it loads , do a cntrl-A)
http://www.tokyodivas.com/ - same
etc.. etc..

In my opinion - who you DON'T LINK TO is far more important than who you do!

That's some very sound advice right there |thumb

Time very well spent checking out who you link to BEFORE putting up a single link. Being in a 'bad neighborhood' can ruin your listings for a long time...perhaps permanently.

Wow, those are some of the worst cases I've seen in a long time |crazy|

Errrr...soooo, hey Dave...howsabout some trades :D
