About the "Exit" link...

Do I even need one? Some list owners state they want the "no thanks" or "Exit" link clearly visiable, yet many free sites do not have one at all.

I mean, I don't want anyone to exit, unless of course they are underage or are offended by porn. But browser's do have "back" buttons, and exit functions...so do I need them on my freesites?

And somewhat related, what about using the exit link as a means of revenue. Sending the clicks to a mainstream sponsor, for example. Is that cheating? Does it count as one of your three outgoing links?

I don't use them.

I figure that's what the browser back button is for.

Personally I don't any lists that require an exit link, assuming you're talking about linklists.
I almost never use an exit link and if I do it points to Tommy's dcjunkies.com :)

About making revenue out of your exit link, I wouldn't do that if I was you. Links to adult and mainstream sponsors both count as an extra outbound link. Ofcourse this is just my POV.

I also do not use an exit link on my freesites. I agree with the back button option for the surfer, he/she knows how to use that function. I have never seen a LL require an exit link, but if you did use one then you might as well try to make something off it IMHO.

However, as Fonz said... If you put up another affiliate link on your exit link, it may be considered another outbound link.

I removed the exit links on my freesites some months ago, and haven't had a single rejection for it, so I guess you don't need it anyway.

Looks like I'll be removing mine...thanks for the input.

I've got a warning page on my blog with an Enter and Exit link. I figure it will give me great comfort when the RCMP hauls my sorry arse off to jail.

spacemanspiff 2007-09-13 09:31 AM

I don't require one. Use it if you want.

Tommy 2007-09-13 11:07 AM

Fonz, Thank you so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another vote here for not using one at all |thumb

Warningpages was an option for a while, but they're now listing things that may cause some reviewers to bounce your sites. Frankly, anything other than a search engine may cause your sites to get bounced. And search engine links are wasted.

Soooo, back to the ol KISS principle...no exit linkie at all...

What if i created a way to pay webmasters a penny each for visitors to a mainstream search engine (i have a few small ppc search engines) how much daily volume are we talking from ... oh lets say your sites?

Anybody else care to chime in with daily volume estimates from their sites - it would be helpful.

Since the beginning of this thread . I have put a link to DC Junkies on my exit link. Some of my site do not have an exit link though . I think thats why I get listed to some cool sites.
