rss parser/reader

Hey guys, I am looking for a good free/cheap rss parser/reader script, What I need it to do is take sponsor hosted blogs and read them into my blog and maybe on some of other sites too.

Can anyone point me to something like this?

Preferably no or VERY little programming needed, since I aint very good with this whole parser/reader thing.

Thanks
Xallow

I used FeedWordPress. It's free and quite simple to use. It doesn't provide much feedback when it can't handle a feed for whatever reason, though. I gave up using it because it was a bit erratic, but it must be one of the most widely used apps for that purpose.

You could check out wp-o-matic. It is a free plugin with the ability to rewrite. Also with regular expressions. I must admit it is still beta and it is also possible it won't work with some version of wordpress. But hey, you can always give it a try. It's free and it works for me.

Good luck.

I've tried all of the WP plug-ins at one point or another and found that all of them have their own quirks depending on the feed, the version of the plug-in and the version of WP itself.

I think the phase of the moon affects it too but don't have any proof.

Thats why I would recommend Blogs Automater. It's not free but does have a fully functional trial that will allow you to run three blogs.

Hi Walrus,
I have been looking at their site, but I found two tools they offered, and I could not figure out wich one would be the best choise. They offer blogsautomater as you told, but they also offer blogsorganizer, wich should also be able to parse RSS feeds and rewrite content.

Do you know the main difference between those two and why did you go for the blogautomater version ?

Thanks.

Blog Organizer is a mass blogging tool. It will read feeds but it really was developed as a means to maintain multiple blogs from a single control point.

Blogs Automater is an RSS Feed tool. It reads and databases feeds but also gives you multiple tools to allow you to use the feed to your benefit. You can sort posts not only by sponsor but by keywords. It will automatically do keyword search and replaces. There are a bunch of other features but the key is its purpose is to manipulate feeds and not create blogs.

I own a copy of both scripts. I originally bought BO to help me maintain my blogs but now use it for the blogs I still hand write posts for.

BA controls my RSS feed blogs.

I had this problem the first time I tried to import some feeds. It ended up being an operational issue but unfortunately I don't remember what I did wrong.

Be sure to set the sponsor and the category. I think it might have been trying to import on Default/Default.

Also Kaktusan has a support forum on the site and he if very responsive there.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts after you've had a little time to play with the script.

Xallow 2007-10-23 02:38 PM

I will let You know what I think in a weeks time or so, I have a fulltime job also, so I only have time to play around with the script after work :(

Xallow 2007-11-03 11:11 AM

Thanks to the fantastic help from Kaktus the script is working magnificantly, it automatically updates my blog every day with anything new from the sponsors that I have decided to use... Absolutly fantastic script and the service Kaktus provides is unrivaled I think. Definately 2 thumbs up!

kaktusan 2007-11-03 11:33 AM
