If you were to move where would it be?

So my wife and I are thinking about moving out of Michigan. If you were to pack up and move, where in the U.S. would you move? What cities did you visit you were just in love with?

My wife was talking about Seattle the other night, but neither of us have ever been there.

I'm Canadian so my options are limited but if I was American it would be somewhere where it doesn't snow. Florida and Arizona come to mind but as long as there's no snow I'm in, lol.

Sorry forgot about you canadians and those overseas. But yes, snow is driving me nuts as well. I really wish I could wear shorts in the winter time :)

I wear shorts all year and have been known to wear them when visiting Canada in the winter :D

I live in the Los Angeles area but would not recommend that. San Diego, Santa Barbara areas are really nice with a lot less smog and nice coastal driving roads. Nothing nicer then it being December (as in my pic) and cruising along the coast with the convertible top down :D

Whatever you do, be sure to pick a liberal community that is adult friendly.

I work remotely from the main office, always have and I don't shoot content etc. I am a developer. So for me, that isn't so much of a concern, I am in the business, but no one would really know.

I know I have thought about like North Carolina too, but my wife says "hell no". Florida seems to humid in the summer etc. Just trying to find that place that is maybe nice all year round :)

Fonz 2010-03-24 04:05 PM

Vermont seems nice and green :)

If I had to live in the U.S. I'd pick Harrisburg PA. Beautiful small city with very friendly people.
If I wasn't restricted to the US I'd pick Palau or one of the Greek islands.

I've always like Santa Cruz and San Diego - but its 10 years since I've been... and I was only passing through, only stayed for a few months

Hmm thats a good question. Im with Ramster.. No More Snow!

Good luck.

In as much as I like the warmth, I think I would need to live in a city with history and character. I find places like, say, Orlando or Phoenix, a little too modern and suburban for me. Seattle WA or Portland OR would be nice. I'll go with Seattle.

If I had to move. I'd probably move to LA, Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, or the only place that I'd go where it gets cold is Chicago. Every time I've visited there I have just loved it. Granted it's been when it's not cold. I think due to how just amazing the city is I could put up with the cold.

There's a lot of cool places in FL. Too far south and it's too hot, but somewhere along the northern east coast is nice. Last time I was in Jacksonville I was impressed. Not really a beach town, but close enough to the beach you can enjoy without sand everywhere.

If you do like the beach, the southern coast of AL is very nice.

Me personally, it would be New Orleans. It just fits me, but it's not for everyone, and my wife would never want to live there.

Cleo 2010-03-25 12:03 PM

I'm really happy right were I am here just off of Fort Lauderdale beach in Florida.

Born and raise in montreal I moved to Buenos Aires 4 years ago very happy here (no snow lol) but if I had to move to the states San Diego would probably be my first choice ....

Good Luck AcidMaX

Where the women are short with flat heads to rest my beer

I moved to Texas 26 years ago from the Chicago area. No state income tax and the cost of housing is about half. :)

LeRoy 2010-03-25 06:27 PM

Orange County Calif. The beaches are really nice and for the most part people are mellow.

LA is pretty tough, I had to thicken my skin a little around here. There's a lot of porn parties and industry work though. However it's no place to raise kids so I'm moving back to OC in a few years.

Greenguy 2010-03-25 08:01 PM

Oddly enough, if I had my choice & was moving, I'd go to Canada.

I spent two weeks in Toronto, over Xmas, and I thought it was an awesome place even with all the snow. I have lived outside Vegas and all around the northwest and I wouldn't chose to live anywhere but the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Everything a person could want is within an hour, ocean, mountains, skiing, fishing, etc.

This is a spot I've spent a little time. I would like to spend some more time there and check out other parts of areas around there. |thumb

Those pics still make me laugh. As Greenie stated, Canada would be a nice move. Wife and I found a fabulous small town that we absolutely adore. Problem is, lots of snow. Prefect scenario would be to keep the house in California and buy one another in Canada and split the year up between the two.
