Blog on subdomains?

I am getting some feedback from some people that it is better to set up a blog as a subdomain than in a folder of my URL for SEO purposes

ie: presently set up as:

http://www.stars4porn.com/blogs/anjali-indian-sex

is this true.

If so how do I set up subdomains and what should my final URL look like?

Google and other search engines treats subdomains as independent sites. This can be used in your advantage.

Your url should look something like:
http://anjali-indian-sex.stars4porn.com/
How to setup depends on your server configuration.

These 2 subjects have been discussed throughly on many sites, you might want to give google a chance :)

On the otherhand, there are some benifits to doing your blog as a folder under your root like you currently are as it will add a great deal of depth to your site. Which in turn will not only benifit the blog itself but also everything else on that domain that may be linked to it, including whats on the root.

I've done a couple of my blogs this way and can't say that I've had any adverse affects when it comes to SE's.

As a sub-domain you are basicly creating a new site, where as a folder your enhancing your existing site.

Since you've got a good general porn domain name, I would think that building a general blog that features a number of girls and then specific blogs around it focusing on each of the girls you feature in the main blog would be a pretty good strategy.

Right now Google likes http://anjali-indian-sex.stars4porn.com/ better than http://www.stars4porn.com/blogs/anjali-indian-sex (my experience).

I think the benefit of the subdomain is that Google sees that as a more dedicated site to Anjali Indian Sex than if it's a subfolder of your main site where it's just another free-site kinda part.

Everyone seems to think subdomains is the way to go then. Is that what you are saying also walrus when you say:

"create a general domain then specific domains for each girl"?

Also I have noticed that the subdomains aren't starting with a www. Is this true. If I do type in a www at the start I am taken to the main domain URL. Is this correct?

reminds me of when that one spammer got like 100k sites indexed by google within a few days if i remember right.

Not at all, I'm not a big fan of subdomains. If you build a site, build it big with lots of pages and folders off of the root that you can link content to. Look at the freesite model (not that I know a lot about freesites) but they build either a hub or a LL on the root and then build lots of freesites around it, interlinking everything.

You have a pornstar domain, on the root build a general pornstar blog. Investigate ways people are making their blogs sticky and build a monster blog. Then in folders, pick 5-6 pornstars you want to build specific blogs about.

In your case, you would have www.stars4porn.com as the general pornstar blog then www.stars4porn.com/anjali-indian-sex and then other girls you like in other folders. Add a link from www.stars4porn.com/anjali-indian-sex to www.stars4porn.com in your blog roll but from www.stars4porn.com only link from posts about Anjali to www.stars4porn.com/anjali-indian-sex.

I am by no means a SE kind of guy but using something similar to this is working well for me.

Great tips walrus. I intend to do that. I have created 2 blogs in this format. and will create 2 more. Will create 4 with subdomains mirroring the first 4 sites but with slightly different content and looks. Will then monitor traffic, SEO with each for a little bit. Will post the results.

Don't forget, there's more then just SEO involved with good marketing.

I've never bothered with subdomains, so I can't comment on the difference, but I can say that sometimes it's not about how much traffic you get but how you best use the traffic you do get. I like Walrus' suggestion, because, as a freesite builder myself, I can attest to the success of the traffic flow model he outlined.

The freesite/hub model Walrus mentioned works because the traffic flows more easily from a general area of interest to a specific desired flavor - it makes it easier for the surfer to find what they're looking for, even if they haven't exactly figured it out until they've landed on your network.

Enlightened people seem to recognize the value in MML's weekly rambling. |thumb

I can't say I'm one of 'em though, considering I only go so I can hear MML's heavy breathing after a passionate rant. |loony|
