listing sites in different cat than recip
I have been wondering about this for sometime so I thought I would ask.
Would we get penalized by search engines for listing sites in a different category than the one on the categorized recip they have on the site? For example someone submits a hardcore site to my amateurs cat which has an amateur category recip but I add it to my hardcore category instead. Would/could this hurt me in any way? |
Probably not, but then again, I am not an expert :D

There's an argument that says it may actually help, but it's fairly theoretical.
The argument is that google may at times of the year devalue reciprocal linking. What you are doing is getting two nonreciprocal links with a cat link if you put it in another cat than the intended. The original idea behind the cat links is that the anchor text in the link enhances a specific keyphrase for your category page, so you may sacrifice a bit of anchor text relevance. There's another theory that anchor text relevance also is variable, and that recently goog began devalueing anchor text to fight the googlebomb phenomena. But's it's all guesswork, ultimately. Most recips coming from freesites are low pr in the first place so it probably has only a small effect one way or the other. |
My question is... Why are you using them if you don't understand the positive or negative consequences.
Seem like every new-ish LL followed like sheep without any idea of the consequences.. DD |
Thanks for your thoughts and the info everyone.
DD - Yeah... You are right. I do not understand it all. Thats why I am asking. :) |
