You guys were right about Strong Box

I can't remember which thread it was in, but I believe it was Cleo who mentioned Strong Box. I was using Penny Wize, which was a good program for 1997 but it hasn't changed since then unfortunately and a lot of hackers can get by it. So I got Strong Box installed and it's unbelievably amazing! It uses cryptography to keep hackers out and it's blocking way more people than PennyWize was.....at first I actually thought legitimate members were getting blocked, but after researching, these are not legitimate members at all. These are all the fucks who were bypassing PennyWize!! |raygun|

Anyway thanks for the recommendation. Strong Box is highly recommended by me.

Here's the website if you wanna check it out.

Over at Angel's site they have pretty much just given up and bought memberships.

Are we ever wrong? :D

Kevin and Danger Dave turned me on to Strongbox in the very beginning. Ray Morris, the author of Strongbox, is real supportive. I have hired him to other projects for me. Damn guy can do anything.

Thanks so much to everyone who posted.
It still amazes even me how fast Strongbox
catches so many passwords missed by Pennywize.
I think on one of Jen's sites it cught 19 passwords
within the first 48 hours.
I'm adding new features and improving it all the time.
Chop, you'll love the new country tracking in the new version
I put on your latest sites. The country checks make it much
more effective. Yesterday I just launched this new
addition, a spider that hunts through thousands of password
sites each day and disables the passwords
it finds even before anyone uses them.
It can be used without Strongbox too:

I still smile every time I I look at my new Strongbox Active Spider logo:

Strong Box

I do not normally brag on programs, but I feel I *MUST* say something about strong box. I have been using iProtect for years, and been happy with it. I recently added a second server, and paid to have iProtect added to it. Due to a series of things beyond my control, iProtect was not installed properly (the author dos the installation) and I turned on the server with no protection. The website I moved to the new server has been around a couple of years, so it instantly got traffic, and I instantly got hit with a 25meg peak (my previous norm was 10 megs, on a server with 3 busy sites). I quickly installed pennywize, while waiting for iProtect to be installed.

Pennywize gave me all sorts of reports, including the fact that my account had been compromised. I changed my user name and password, and again, according to pennywize, I was logging in and downloading multiple files. I began to doubt the validity of the reports, as my user name and password were not easy to guess. I started researching alternative solutions and ran across a discussion on this board about pennywize and strong box. I called Ray up on the phone, and spoke at length with him, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that strong box would work with any type of user name/password setups. I have 2 sites that use mysql databases for un/pw, 2 that use htaccess/htpasswd, and strong box can handle all of them.

Ray installed strong box in a very short time, made the necessary modifications to the websites, all this cost less then 1 month of pennywize, and far less then iProtect.

And now with the new spider program, it has been taken to a whole new level!

Ray stopped into chat with us on IRC today and stayed for well over an hour just helping us find out if his script would work with ours. Great guy, very helpful and very knowledgeable.

I think I want that program :)

tat2jr 2004-09-14 04:52 AM

I was very interested in this program when I read about it here awhile ago. now this new thread.....

I'm gonna buy 2 copies of this program. Since I heard about it here on GG and Jim.... was wondering if you guys have a refferal link.

Compatible with Windows™ Media Player 9 and other video.
Actually it doesn't work with Mac uses and WMP. Over at FoxyAngel's site will solved the problem by going 100% mpegs.

Indeed their seems to have been a recent change to
the Mac browser such that downloading wmv files
doesn't work with some versions. From the reports that we have,
viewing the video works fine, saving to disk doesn't.
Also mpeg works fine. It works fine using IE on the Mac.
Mpeg is always the better choice
anyway unless you're using DRM, as wmv IS mpeg with
encryption added so that they can only be played
on Microsoft "approved" software. (AKA the software vendor
paid Microsft's bribe.)
As soon as we get access to a Mac machine we'll
examine the bits flowing over the wire and see exactly
where the Mac browser is broken and implement a workaround.

Cleo 2004-09-14 05:20 PM

When you do get a Mac for testing be sure to test with Safari not IE as Safari is the default browser and IE is no longer even made for the Mac.

With the little bit of testing I did back when she still had some WMV files WMP got sent the login page so I just assumed that WMP was unable to be authorized as it is a separate application trying to access the members area.

There still is one issue with mpegs and Safari when using Strongbox. If you try to right mouse click and save the mpeg to your hard drive before playing it for a few seconds first the login page will get downloaded instead. I'm guessing that it is an authorization issue. This doesn't happen using Mozilla, but most Mac uses are using Safari these days.

I haven't really done any testing using IE as it is a dead browser on the Mac.

If you need anything Mac related just ask. :)

I also have a Mac too, Ray. My main computer is a PC but I do have an iMac for design. So if you need anything with Mac testing, I'd be glad to help too.

Wow I just had to post this.

This is my access statistics for my leased feeds that I pay for. They don't get many hits because I have so many movies on my sites, but I was actually able to DOWNGRADE my plan with them because I have less users (freeloaders!) using them now !!

And it's not because I have less members or anything now, my memberships have actually skyrocketed in the last couple weeks. (I don't think that has anything to do with Strong Box though - disclaimer)

These numbers used to be between 75-100 people a day:

NotThatKevin 2004-09-17 09:02 PM

JenC those savings are great :)
Other than the peace of mind I have with SB I love the reporting features. Now and again I get a smart ass member that emails me saying they haven't been able to get access for the whole month and they want their money back.
All I do is email them the report with all their logins and I never hear from them again.

WildChyld 2005-03-11 12:13 PM

I paid for strongbox several days ago but haven't heard anything from Ray at all. I even sent an "are you away?" email and haven't gotten any word back.
Does anyone know anything? It seems pretty unprofessional to accept my payment but not reply to emails and I'm slightly concerned.

WildChyld, in defense to Ray, he's a very busy guy. He has taken awhile to respond back to me himself a few times but he does follow through and the wait is worth it. I know it's frustrating and you just want the damn thing up and running, but be patient. He will respond.

Hopefully this thread will jog him. ;)

Useless 2005-03-11 12:34 PM

His ICQ is showing him on, but unavailable. I'm positive he'll get to you very soon. I've heard nothing but great things about him. It's just that there are very few reputable coders working in the adult industry, so they are very busy people.

WildChyld 2005-03-11 12:42 PM

yeah thats what I figured. I trust you guys but with all of the nets weirdness I'm always worried when I pay out money and don't get an "i got it and I'm working on it" email. lol |headbang| thanks

Cleo 2005-03-11 01:39 PM

I sent him a ICQ letting him know about this thread. :)
