Thanks miss cleo, but why will they end looking bad if i make them 150, thats why i have 2 big pictures on them because those 2 will look so bad when making smaller.

kristian 2004-09-08 08:42 AM

I like your gallery and the thumbs also look fine to me, but I think your content is "slightly" flawed here. The lighting is a little poor. The 2 thumbs in question also have a lot more information in them than the others; a closeup of a face will always lead to a crisper thumb than a full shot of two models. One suggestion would be to crop into the pic to produce a thumb (although a few tgps do not like this, I really dont see the problem).

Nothing wrong with having one or two large thumbs in your gallery. I do this all the time as I think it makes for a better layout.

You don't say what you are using for photo editing. I use Photoshop/Imageready and find that when I make a pic smaller I often have to do a bit of sharpening after I reduce its size.

Kristian's suggestion is also good advice.

Resizing thumbs is way too time consuming. Just make new thumbs from the full size pics :)

Hey man, I batched most of this with superjpg, and did the large image with photoshop:

Wow they retired. That sucks. See if you can find it somewhere it's quite good.

First, it's a good set of content.

Re: kristian's comment that it's "flawed", the set appears to have been shot by the photog using a filter to "soften" up the images for a "glamour" look. This type of content can be hard to thumbnail (consider some of the FTV Girls content) especially around high contrast areas.

1. Look at the original images. If you notice some "jaggies" (especially in the eyes and on the edges of arms & legs that run diagonally), the set was sharpened already by the photog or image broker. Sharpening will only compound the prob. Though, using Photoshop's Unsharp Mask might work, but requires a certain level of expertise.

2. Are you making thumbs from the original or a resized image? From the original is ALWAYS preffered.

3. Cropping (especially with difficult images) is preffered for making thumbs vs. image resizing (at least in Adobe PS) because each command has a different algorithm. kristian & cleo are correct (of course) re: cropping in and using the sharpen feature.

4. While batching the job is more productive, you will lose an element of control when dealing with "touchy" images. Sometimes, you've got to tweak them one by one.

Always work from the original full sized image. In the analog days, we called it "losing a generation".

Who is this |Jim guy? And how did he get my number?

stuveltje - check out the free download over at neosoft.com - its called express thumbnail creator - I use it sometimes when I run into problems with sets - it allows you to set the compression quality to a little higher % - I sometimes let it run as high as 93% to try and get a 150 thumb that keeps the original pics quality - its also nice for batching thumbs and creating image (html) pages on the fly. The only thing you give up though is that the thumb may be a little bigger bytewise :)

Greenguy 2004-09-08 11:19 AM

The 1st one looks real good - the 2nd one could look a little better with the adjustment of some cell sizes (or the site of that big image in the middle) so that everything lines up nice & neat.

But then again, I'm anal when it comes to tables :D

Hiyas Stu! :) I just started to use Easy Thumbnail and it works great for sharpening things up and getting thumbs to look just how you want. Lots of really simple adjustments you can make for doing batches....

stuveltje 2004-09-08 01:35 PM

Hya |waves| Jaden, since i stopped making free sites 5 months ago to work on my projects, i am not easy satisfied when i make free sites, and i can totally change a site which i made because i dont like the results...........i know i am nuts, i use batchthumbs alot, but since i am on the new puter and see my old stuff i go *faint* did i made a pink site on the old puter, it looks like a purple site on the new puter, this made me very confusing, because i dont know now how my sites look for real........even the pics they look good in the old but look so bad in the new, i ask peoples view, and i notice some will see them as good and some will see them like shit, like me, its the video card or something but it drives me nuts
