Ways to Market a Website: Additions wanted...

Hello Everyone,

I was looking around trying to find "The Baby Webmaster Handbook" on how to market my new website...Hope this is a good way to share the information I've got and get more information from all the experienced people on this great board.

Greenguy gave me a quick critique on my website designe....thanks! I've got some stuff to learn....that's for sure!

Here's what i've got so far:

Search engine submits:
TGP links: (Free Content business card that is linked back to my website)
http://www.dwpny-archives.com/freegallery2.html
Banner exchange: Linking w/ Other websites

this can't be all ...can it? (No I'm sure not)

you can also submit your site to search engines and Linklists...that might work.

If you're promoting a gallery, you're sorta limited as far as what you can do to promote it. Mostly, you're looking at submitting to many, many TGP's. Most will require a recip link, so you'll have to save different copies of the page, put a few recips on it & then submit that page to the TGP's you habve listed. Do this over & over & over....

You can submit the page to SE's but it's better if the SE's find you from what I'm told.

BTW - that page will looks very bad unless the surfer is set at 1024 wide :(

Hello,

Thanks for your input...I've checked w/ a friend and resized this page....if it passes the test then i'll resize the rest of the site too...the floating bits fall into place when the window gets sized by the user. Do you think it's asking too much of the users?

Thanks again 4 your feedback!

How many times have we all seen those "This site is best viewed at 800x600" yet did not change our screen res?

IMHO asking surfers to adjust their settings when you can easily build to fit everything from 800 wide & up is going to cause a lot of back clicks.

Like gg said. People are not going to resize your page. You just want it to look good for as many people as you can.

As for promoting.... If you are talking about the paysite then an affiliate program would help.

Also you can feed it buy building a bunch of free sites and submitting to linklists.

One other thing that I noticed was that you have a yahoo account for your customer service email. I don't think this is going to build alot of trust in people.|sad|

A text join link may also help. I am kind of banner blind so I actually had trouble finding the join link. With all the other text links it also might be good to have a text join also.

Note though that I have never owned/ran a paysite. Just making some observations.

Thanks to GG & AMADMAN & ALL

Thanks everyone for your posts...they have made things much clearer for me. (I think I get it now)

Now as far as my site size....

I resized the site from 800 wide to 750. It just fits into an 800 wide screen i think. Is that what I'm supposed to have as a norm?

I still have a lot of work to do to do the rest of the site this way.... but here's the main page:

http://www.dwpny-archives.com/index.html

And the join Page:

http://www.dwpny-archives.com/join.html

R they working right now for you GG?

Greenguy 2004-10-27 07:18 AM

Maybe I'm not being clear enough, so I'm gonna use CAPS to get my point across:

LOOK AT YOUR PAGES IN EVERY SCREEN RES THAT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE SEES THE SAME THING.

http://www.dwpny-archives.com/index.html - looks good at 800, starts getting weird at 1024 & looks horrible at 1152

http://www.dwpny-archives.com/join.html - looks horrible at 800, decent at 1024 & back to horrible at 1152

Get rid of that floating thing - that's your biggest problem.
