Acacia sending patent-infringement letters to colleges
The labels and movie folks aren't the only venal acts around. The Acacia Research Corporation has sent patent-infringement letters to colleges across the country offering to "overlook past infringement" if they'll sign on to "a special royalty rate of two percent of gross revenue from each online course that includes digital audio and/or video content", reports the the Chronicle for Higher Education.
p2pnet.net Maybe now the authorities will sit up and take notice. But if anyone knows of prior art colleges will or they will find it. |
Definitely not a good move on their part.
And as you said ... if someone will find prior art ... its the Universities. Thats assuming there is no public sympathy for them. The media loves this sorta thing. |
Then starting telling the media, email the links to as many news stations you can think of.
Up against porn sites they hda a chance, taking on Colleges was there biggest mistake. |
Well the one thing that is for sure is that lots of lawyers will make lots of money off of this. :(

The wave of new patents hitting the net is gonna make a lot of lawyers very happy. Hmmmmm .... Law ... wonder if they will offer a Law/Porn degree at Uni |lightsabe |
Very intersting... Here in Maryland if they send one to a public college then the way Maryland works they are essentially suing the state and the state attorney general will be defending the college(s). I think Aca*ia is going to get bombed on this one...
