Editing WMV files

I'd like to try making freesites with video instead of pics and have run into a problem. Some of the sponsor content out there comes in huge chunks of 5 mb and more and obviously needs to be edited/compressed. The software I have (Ulead video studio) can't even open wmv files and a quick Google search tells me there aren't many programs (if any at all?) that can.

Can someone give any advice on how to edit these files

You may want to use the board's search function to search for wmv and mpeg.

Use windows movie maker 2. It's free and couldn't be any easier to use.

And it's right there in XP. Never even new it was there. Thanks! :)

For movie maker 2, it seems one must have SP2 installed? I thought I installed something like this during an update, but I have been reluctant to install SP2.

Yah I think so, can't remember the version packed with SP2 but there was some version available before that.

I was iffy about SP2 because I had heard a lot of bad things about it, but I've had it installed for a couple of weeks now and no problems.

Well, I went ahead and installed SP2 which went without a hitch, luckily.
