Steve Job's 17,000sq ft 35 room mansion for free!

He lived in it for ten years before moving to Palo Alto in 1993 and is now giving it away.

Quote:

The mansion, designed in 1926 by the architect George Washington Smith, who was considered the leading US exponent of the Hispanic and Mediterranean revival of the 1920s, has 11 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, period public rooms and a pipe organ.
You will need to dismantle it and remove it from his property.

The guy says 2 million to move it. I wonder how far they will move it for that price? I would imagine it would be cheaper to buy a nicer house and not have to move it :) They said it wasn't a very nice house.

digifan 2005-01-05 07:17 PM

That's just crazy.. but their new $500 imacs coming soon are cool and will tempt most windows users for sure.. sounds like a great price. |bananna|

Useless 2005-01-05 07:39 PM

If he never really liked the house, perhaps he should not have purchased it. He seems to be regretting that decision anyway. I truly detest people with so much money that the whole ordeal is just a bump in the road to them.

Eat the rich.

ecchi 2005-01-05 08:30 PM

RE :"but their new $500 imacs coming soon are cool and will tempt " Yeah they may be cheap, but they are still Imacs. So you would still have to live with the shame of owning an Imac, even worse than the humiliation of being signed up to AOL !

Cleo 2005-01-05 08:42 PM

And what is wrong with owning a Mac and what does that have to do with AOL? Don't you need to go run some anti-virus software and get de-wormed or something?

Must be nice to be super rich. I remember a few years ago he pissed off the city officials when he bought his next door neighbor's house so that he could knock it down and plant apple trees.

Look out ecchi! |bus|

RE : "what is wrong with owning a Mac" No idea, they seamed OK On the rare occasions I have used one, but owning one has all the street cred of being a Spice Girl's fan.

I guess it is because like AOL, the Mac was originally designed to be easy for total idiots to use. And when the Imac came out it was mostly sold on looks rather than functionality, and most of what you paid for was the "designer looks" not the computer itself, so aimed at even stupider idiots.

RE : "what does that have to do with AOL?" AOL users have the same reputation.

My apologies to all the Mac users I just offended I was just answering the question. I don't have a problem with Mac users (my sister is one) and as I said "they seamed OK an the rare occasions I have used one". I don't make the rules of style (and I rarely follow them). If I did have any say in the matter, anyone NOT using an Amiga would be the ones considered "red haired stepchildren".

re : "Look out ecchi!" Oh I'm not scared, I have offended larger and tougher groups than "all Mac and Imac users". Years ago I used to spar with a guy on another board and posted long posts "proving" that all American sportsmen were useless and gay, and that all US soldiers were cowards. You would not believe some of the "hate" emails I got from people who could not understand satire. If I did not already live on a different continent to most Americans I think I would have had to move to one.

Oh ecchi, ecchi, ecchi. You aren't very good at making friends, are you?

BTW, I am a former U.S. soldier. But I'm not a sportsman, so at least I'm not gay. :D

ecchi 2005-01-05 09:56 PM

RE : "Oh ecchi, ecchi, ecchi. You aren't very good at making friends, are you?" Fraid not. Most people of my age start making arrangements for a gravestone to go on their grave. With my popularity I guess I should think more along the lines of covering my grave with a dance floor and a spittoon.

Never been in any of the armed forces and best I can tell I'm bisexual.

I have been using Macs since about 1985. The one I'm using now hasn't crashed in well over a year and doesn't run any anti-virus software or have any reason to, it's stylish too.

What was it we were talking about again?

Oh yeah filthy rich men who own an animation company as a business and a computer company as a hobby and seem to have disdain for old houses with way too much money for one person.

Hey Steve want to make an old lady pornographer very, very happy and give me a few million or so? :D

Thanks for calling me a total idiot just for preferring a user friendly pc in the classic sence... the imac I am talking about is the cheapest so hopefully affordable one coming without a monitor even... and has nothing with the designer looks, only the prize.
I just happened to spend all my money for two fucking years for chemo medication and surgeries for my mom and price does matter because I am still in debt.

Cleo 2005-01-05 11:12 PM

It is looking like Apple will introduce a cheap headless iMac or whatever they call it next week.

They dropped their prices of all their monitors this week which usually means something new is coming.

Something with svideo output like the photo ipod has would make it a great media center device if you didn't want a screen taking up space.

A friend of mine used to work at Florida Power and Light maintaining data services (not actually PCs, but making sure their computers talked with the different physical plants, etc.)

He's a mac guy -- his reasoning:

we fix computers all day at work, I don't want to do that at home, so I have a mac.

He also runs a box with linux & vmware to run W2k for his domain services - because W2k is more stable in vmware under linux than it is by itself.

I wouldn't worry about it as he is just grouchy, probably due to having PC problems, looking at the PC problems thread he started.

There is a reason that Windows is so popular but reliability and stability is not it.

Jim 2005-01-06 08:30 AM

My only problem with mac owners is that they are in the same group and ex-smokers, dieters and even Jehovah's Witnesses. For some reason, they feel the need to preach the gospel.

Cleo 2005-01-06 08:54 AM

All I did was start a thread about some rich dude giving away a house and next thing I'm being called an idiot for using a Mac.

My problem with PC users is that they take every chance they get to bash Macs, that and their crappy OS clogs up the internet and my inbox with its virus and worms.

You did but you have preached a time or two in the past :)

True, Jim :)

I think ex-smokers and dieters seek help in their groups, not sure about Jehovah's Witnesses... but they can preach a lot if you are not fast enough to close the door. :)

RE : "Thanks for calling me a total idiot " I didn't. Please re-read my post. I was asked why Mac users are considered "lesser" computer users by some people, and explained. I carefully pointed out that it is NOT my opinion, and that if I were to make the rules both Mac and PC users would be tared with the same brush (i.e all non Amiga users). Also note that I said my sister was a Mac user, I would not call her an idiot (especially as she just gave me the complete scripts for the first four years of "Dad's Army for Christmas) And I fully agree with the quote from one of Cleo's posts about Windows "crappy OS "

However my experience of Mac users is that even if I had called them all idiots they would have no right to complain, because Mac users seem to spend more time insulting PC users than PC users spend insulting Mac users.

RE : "I wouldn't worry about it as he is just grouchy, probably due to having PC problems" No I am just grouchy all the time, don't need no special reason.

Yeah I saw that over on Slashdot today.

They also said that "he described anyone who doesn't support ever-increasing intellectual property laws as "communists""

It does look like Apple is taking tips from Microsoft as now people are starting to bring lawsuits against Apple for not opening up the iTunes store format.
