Good Snowy Thursday Morning

Good Morning
Well, we have a lot of snow and I have a truck with flat tires. Getting new ones today but that doesn't really help with the 5 inches we have already.

So, my grandmother took a turn for the worse last night and they moved her to icu. Apparently pneumonia isn't too good for people in their 80s.

So, I will be in and out all day.

Good morning!

Still in Vegas and just got in my room. Checking emails before my 24 hour internet access is dead. They bill for 24 hour periods and that runs out at 10:30am and since I check out at 11am figured I'd grab a last batch of emails before flying home tonight/Thursday night.

Have a good day all. :)

It's a snow day here in wintery Glens Falls, NY. So lucky me gets blessed with my two little injuns running around the house all day screaming and attemting to bust in my office door. Yeah!

On a brighter note... Nope, can't think of anything right now.

Good morning all,

pretty warm for this time of year, sun is shining and stuff like that...
The damge that was caused by the voltage spike we had 2 days ago is slowly getting fixed. Still no computer at home :(

Anyway, have a nice day :)

Another warm nice day here. :)

I have a few errands to run but I should be around most of the day.

digifan 2005-01-06 08:11 AM

Morning :)

I'd either be with Cleo or have some snow instead of the windstorms and endless rain.

:D

Greenguy 2005-01-06 08:24 AM

Morning all :)

It snowed here last night too, but not as much as they were calling for.

I'll be scarce form noon today until very late tonight.

Hope you don't mind sharing a bed as my guest room is still unfinished waiting for my tile to come in. :D

Good Cold cold morning to all of you.

Morning folks,

Yesterday I got back from helping out the Sri Lankan embassy with all the stuff that is going down to Sri Lanka (I went up there on new years eve). In just couple of days we packed 50 large freight containers with food, medicine, clothes, blankets and everything else that is needed.
It was amazing to see so many people donating stuff and helping out packing everything.

The Sri Lankans are one of the kindest people I've ever met. They really go out of their way to make you feel at home. As a thank you for helping them out I was invited to the embassy for dinner. So 5 of us (Chargé d'affaire, 2nd secretary, coordinator, me and another guy from Sri Lanka) were having lankese food and listening to heart breaking stories from Sri Lanka, and also some sunshine stories. When you hear about it you feel blessed living in a place that doesn't have any natural disasters, but you also feel the responsibility to help out the ones that has it.
I'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I put myself on their list over people that want to help out on-site.

Well, $1250 later and I have new tires :) My second set in just a couple of years :)

cd34 2005-01-06 01:41 PM

The only thing I remember about snow was leaving at 6pm, coordinating with a telecom company, borrowing two CSU/DSUs and finding that the Mohawk Telephone Company decided that broken wires that occaisionally touch T1 circuits are more than ample for connectivity.

I think that was right after Maryland had gotten socked with two winter storms and I decided I needed a 4wd vehicle, then, it never snowed again (except when I was in Florida looking for a new house) I got back, no snow, went back to Florida to close on the house, Maryland gets a second blizzard.

Thankfully, snow has only fallen 1 hour north of here and it was a light dusting. Ironically, in the same place where Frances and Jeanne made landfall two years later. Things that make you go hmm.

Couldn't you have bought some retreads from that store down the street from you? The Grocery/Check Cashing/Tire store? haha

I still remember you driving to the airport and almost killing me. Or the stories of you plowing the driveway multiple times, and not having anywhere to push the snow.

Geesh, remind us why you like snow again?

Jim 2005-01-06 01:53 PM

I need special 10 ply tires for my truck. At least I found out that I can drive on 2 flat tires as long as they are in the back :)

cd34 2005-01-06 01:56 PM

did you get the special 10-ply runflats? haha

I just had to put tires on my wife's car -- the set was cheaper than one tire for the truck -- although, not as bad as your two tires.

Cleo 2005-01-06 01:57 PM

Damn I thought my Vette's tires were expensive at $400 apiece for the rear and $350 apiece for the front.

Where are you located that you helped out the Sri Lanka's?

That is wonderful news. It's very nice of you to take time out of your personal schedule to help others.

Had an ice storm here in KC. Sucks.

Jim 2005-01-06 03:51 PM

These tires are big and will hold 80 lbs of air pressure.

80lbs.? Christ! Why not fill them with concrete and end your worries of flat tires?

I'm in the southern part of Sweden and their embassy is in Stockholm 8 hours away.
We're very fortunate here in Sweden, we don't have any natural disasters. So I feel like the the least I could do was to help the ones that aren't as fortunate. Sitting here reviewing and making sites didn't feel very useful when there were people actually needing REAL help :(

That was the problem with the other tires I had. They were not 10 ply and the tire place still put 80 lbs in. So, the sides blew out. Of course when I went back to the tire store, they had changed hands. So, I ended up buying 6 new tires when 3 of the ones I was replacing looked fine.
