book-mark.net / Mark's Bookmarks TRAFFIC?!

Ever since I have a password at thumbnailpost.com bloody Mark's Bookmarks copies each and every link...

I had stopped submitting to him back in late 1999 because his traffic was totally useless to me, and back then he was one of the first to come up with stupid requests like "my advertising text link on top of your gallery" or pay for submissions. I then tested my galleries listed at book-mark.net with a specific referrer code and from 300k+ traffic didn't even get 500 click-thrus and not a single sign-up - so that was a waste of bw in days when I considered 1:120 a bad ratio...

Now, bloody almost 5 years later I get hit by him again with over 15k/day |banghead|

Would it be unethical to re-direct his traffic, since I didn't ask for it in the first place? Or did book-mark-net traffic improve in any way?

When I first posted there years ago as well when it was free (cept a link) it was one of *the* most productive spots for gallery traffic I could find.. In fact it was the most productive gallery traffic I ever had, lol :)
It was the place I'd be hoping to be listed every time as high as possible, as often as possible, as long as possible.

If I remembered my username/password and was still able to submit there, I would submit everyday.

You can redirect it to me lol :)

Actually I wouldnt redirect it at all, but maybe when you again submit somewhere that they pick up your galleries, include an htaccess up front so when they try to link to you they'll see it up front and not list you.. if you really dont want them to.

I'm still surprised it's been unproductive.

That's probably the same as WORLDSEX.com - I can't for the hell of it do anything with Pierre's traffic (is he actually still running the site?)!

Back in 1990/2000 he used to copy all my links from HardCoreJunky - and I had to write like 10 times until he stopped... When he took over absolute-series I soon stopped submitting there, too.

I guess different traffic works for different people |waves|

@GeorgeTH: How I wish I had problems like yours ;-)
For me , when some other TGP's picking up my galleries - its a gift.
I remember couple of months ago I was accepted as a partner
at elephantlist - and every gallery listed there was copied by some japanese tgp which was bringing me equal amount (if not bigger) of traffic. (then one day my host went down for a night and I woke up as blacklisted, mailed ele's couple of time but they didnt reply).

I'd never redirect that kind of traffic (from Book-mark), maybe try to make slight diffrences in your galleries and maybe you're start converting with Mark's. Remember - people are paying to get listed there, you're getting listed for free.

I'll never understand blacklisting for server outages. I prune out dead links everyday, but I don't think of them as cheaters, just folks having a bad day. Shit happens. Servers go down. Hosts die. Servers get a heavy influx of traffic and can't handle it. Why do people blacklist for that? Maybe I'm just naive, but that's one of those situations where TGP owners are being overzealous with their deadly ban button.

That's my 1 1/2 cents. Sorry for hijacking your thread George.

I've done it in the past when someone else picked up galleries that I listed on Ampland - just redirect them someplace else.

Well, I have to agree with you Useless Warrior. If you dont redirect any traffic and your pages are just not reachable I think
people should ban other people for this. Also it would be nice for them to mail me back , I mailed them like 3 times and gave up....

Now that I got my hands on thumbnailposts account, Im wondering if book-mark will also copy my galleries. (pretty please)

As I said: I guess different traffic works for different people... Otherwise the same 20 (or whatever number) TGPs would get all the submissions, and all others would be left to newbies...

I remember one site which used to send me consistently excellent traffic: jpeg4free (I could bet on a minimum 2 sign-ups per listing, which I consider being good for a single TGP) - - - until bangbrothers took it over and gone were the sign-ups from jpeg4free listings; they soon stopped listing me, too, so that solved that...

You're right GeorgeTH. It depends on how you design the page and many other factors...I was wondering, I read on mediumpimpin's board that some people there despite having thumbnailpost's submit account were still having problems getting listed, what are your experiences ?

I think so far ~80% of my submissions have been listed (can't say for sure as I didn't keep a close eye on things), but as with many other sites it might have to do with the time of day you're submitting! Once their daily limit is reached your gallery probably won't be even looked at...
One advantage of being an overseas webmaster: we get easier into the time slot right after US midnight - LOL!

Last weekend I struggled with one gallery (actually wasn't happy with the first set of content after I had all images cropped and watermarked, so I got a new set and started afresh...Was a real bugger!) and ended up submitting about 2-3 hours later than I usually do, and got a lot less listings! I noticed already during confirmations that the emails from bestxxxseries and stickyhole were missing, a sure sign that they were full for the day... And this gallery didn't show on thumbnailpost either.

grzepa 2005-01-25 04:49 AM

Thanks for the reply ! So what time would you suggest to submit ? If you dont want to post here PM me ;-) (if you want to say that at all ). I just realised the same thing happened to me last night with stickyhole and bestxxxseries....

George
I know it is an idiotic question, but how is thumbnailpost traffic doing? I remember I got their partner account a long time back and submitted 3-4 galleries. I guess 2 got picked up (not bad as I used sponsor content) and I got around 10k for 3 sales. And then I used the money to start pornography times and forgot all about TGP!
Now of course, apart from SE which send decent amounts of signups, if not traffic, my traffic is getting stale and so I am back to TGP posting! Wonder if he'll accept me again! (costs a 100 bucks, doesn't it?)

GeorgeTH 2005-02-04 05:51 PM

I'm currently using sponsors where it's hard to track which gallery extension makes a sign-up, so I can't really give reliable figures...

I certainly didn't pay... Just referred to old submissions, etc.,and had to wait like 3-4 weeks...

cellinis 2005-02-11 10:21 AM

george!

thanks for the reply! I just got accepted back again! I must have been mistaken about the submit pass or maybe he discontinued it.
I use a click tracking to send hits to sponsors for my submissions to major TGPs. Of course it has to be a big TGP since it takes an additional 15 minutes of work to set up the links on the server, but it gives very good results as far as analysis goes. Think about it, seperate link track for each of the banners/links for each page. Can't do it for more than 4-5 pages though, too cumbersome. But it gives accurate stats on which banners generate high CTR and higher sales. (Plus gives you an accurate idea of shaving lol)

@GeorgeTH
When Mark's is usually picking your galleries ? I've had my first gallery listed today on thumbnailpost.com but I cant see Marks-bookmarks in my refferers yet...

He lists them usually with a 24-30 hour delay, but it seems to depend upon category if he copies them or not... More likely 'hardcore' and 'teen', no 'lesbian' and odd ones like 'redhead' or 'exhibitionist'. Referrrer is bookmark.net

grzepa 2005-02-11 04:09 PM

I see, I have dildo gallery listed I wonder if he'll pick it up. Btw. Thumbnailpost's traffic volume is great !

grzepa 2005-02-14 10:56 AM

Ok, he picked up my gallery , got hit for over 2k yesterday, nice .
