I need daily and hourly stats
 

If I've posted this in the wrong place would someone point me in the right direction?

I need daily and hourly stats and referring url stats like sexlist.com offers, but my host has wusage installed on my server, and I find the stats it gives involve a lot of graphs and detail I either don't use or find confusing.

Does anyone know if Wusage can be configured to give simple reports... or should I be asking my host to install another program?

why would you need hourly stats

Mizz B you should ask your host if they can install Awstats from CPanel for you. Most webmasters I know use it on there host and are very happy. It gives Monthly, daily, hourly, and the duration the vistor was at your site.

Other external counters would be www.paycounter.com www.sextracker.com and www.xxxcounter.com . I would suggest not putting these on your free sites because they can get you rejected and even banned at some places. If it is for your own personal website then these would be good as well.

My host has suggested I read the Wusage manual to see if it can be modified to give the stats I need, but I have to admit I'm not very tech-savy, so the manual looks extremely daunting.

Switching to a simpler stats program sounds preferable, so
I will definitely do some research on Awstats with this in mind.

I appreciate your suggestions re external counters, but the sites I submit to no longer accept external counters.

Wusage is a nice stats system.. I wish I had it in addition to the two stats packages I already have. But I havent shelled out the $70 (or whatever it is now) to have it installed. Not a freebie.

Also, they should be able to add awstats to exists alongside wusage I'd guess without much trouble.

Cause sometimes I like to see how fast submissions are linked, which submissions are getting posted, and who's posting them, so I know who to be nice to next time ;o)

Maybe I should have said 'detailed' hourly stats.

I want to know which urls are getting hits, and the domains these hits are coming from.

And I'd very much appreciate it if some of you would stop trying to make me feel dumb. I'm asking questions here because I've come to expect people to here to be helpful.

Thanks Porn Meister, I have that option, but it only gives me a chart and a lot of numbers, not what I'm wanting.

Hmm.. I dont think awstats provides stats that detailed either :(

You might need something a little custom. Maybe some sort of program to mount the raw log file on a local pc.. not sure.

I had a look at Happy Log, thanks Porn Meister, but it doesn't do it either. Downloading logs in order to analyze them would be too time consuming. I want something I can check quickly, like the stats one gets from external counters.

I'm beginning to think I'm searching for something that isn't available yet. :o(

I don't think anyone here is trying to make you feel dumb. I think they're asking legitimate questions. It's far too easy to get totally bogged down in the minutiae of stats. Long-term trends are what matter.

I'm totally sympathetic to what you're asking for - I would analyze my traffic to the second, given the chance; but in the long run, it's just not productive.

exactly - noone is trying to make anyone feel dumb - you saying that to people who are actually trying to help is offensive - if you think we got nothing better to do then post on boards to make ppl feel dumb you neeed to think again

checking stats every hour is a 100% waste of your time - how qwikly anyone lists you tells you nothing - thats my opinion only of course - 5 years in the biz I still got plenty to learn

re stats: I've been in this biz for well over 5 years, and I've always found it beneficial to pay attention to my stats. I'm not checking them every 20 minutes like a total newbie, but when I start a new sponsor, or add a new site to my submission list, I like to check response times. And if I'm used to getting a certain amount of traffic from a particular site, with frequent stats updates, I quickly notice if this has dropped off.

I acknowledge that this isn't every webmaster's way of doing things, but it works for me.

In reference to my comment about people trying to make me feel dumb, I do apologize if I offended anyone.

Blue Quartz, I have to say that none of your comments appear to be in the spirit of helpfulness... but if I'm being overly sensitive and misinterpreted friendly 'joshing', I apologize to you too.

I use Wusage and the daily stats rock! I've had plenty of people show me AW Stats but they never have anything close to the daily that Wusage offers. I think people use AW Stats becasue they haven't seen Wusage stats :)

One thing you can do is contact support at Boutell. Tom responds quickly and is very helpful.

I've been using Wusage for years. I don't use any graphs. Send me a PM with your contact information and I'll show you what I get for daily stats. I'm not setup to run real time reports becasue that requires a seperate server if you have a lot of traffic.

I've never even thought about trying to get hourly stats but maybe Tom at Boutell can tell you how to get them.

AWstats is free I think, and last I checked into it, Wusage cost money, lol.

If Wusage is free now, I'll be asking for it right away on my bigger host..
