Temporary Files

I have found a bunch of icons, pages, pictures, etc. from pages I have visited in my temporary folders/files. How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks.

If your using IE you can go to Tools ---> Internet Options & then int eh middle of the 1st tab, there's Temporary Internet Files - there yocu an set up how they are saved and delete old ones & whatnot.

Thanks. It was saving every time I visited the pages, I just checked NEVER.

I appreciate your wisdom.

I changed this back when I first asked this question to "never" and it is saving them again. I changed it again yesterday and it is still saving them.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

The option that has "never" is for checking for a newer version of a stored page. I'm not sure if you can turn your cache off completely. I just dump mine right before I back up (this way those big folders are not copied over to the back up drive)

ngb1959: The Option "never" doesn't prevent downloading actually it makes your browser NOT check for a new version of the site for changes etc.. it reads the html and images it has it its cache for faster browsing..

The way a browser works is that the HTML pages and the images get downloaded to your computer thats the ONLY way that the browser can display the images or HTML.

If you want to clear your cache I'd suggest you clear it manually or look for a program which will do this for you like some sort of track covering software which will delte your history, cache and cookies.

Now I understand. I thought NEVER meant never. I get it now. I just changed it to automatic.

Thanks for your help.

You can of course, also limit the amount of space is used, so you dont gather too much. And it does'nt take as long to empty or delete the stuff.

I've got it set to 150. What a difference since I changed it to automatic. I don't have to hold down the control key when executing some stuff.

Thanks all.

Another answer is to go to internet options the advanced tab, scroll down to security options (that's security options down near the bottom of the scroll in the advanced tab...not the security tab!)
Check the box that says to empty the temporary internet files folder when the browser is closed
That with all the above will clear your cache of all but cookies every time you close the browser, but will still keep session files until you close the IE window...of course it clears it when ALL the ie windows are closed.
