link script

Hi all I am wondering is there an easy way to update a number of links that go to the same target when the links are on different pages if the pages are html. Basically its a pain to change 5 links that are all the same when you have to do that 50 times.
Thanks for any help

The links are in a script that generates the html page?

Or do you just have html pages that you made with the same link on each?

The links are just on html pages with just the same link at the moment

You can do a search & replace on those files & then re-upload them to the server.

Search and replace?

Greenguy 2005-01-18 05:06 PM

Search & Replace is a wonderful tool that lets you basically search for bits of text/code & replace it with other bits of text - so if a sponsor has you change a link code, you can tell the program to search for the one link & replace it with the other.

TexPad has this built into it, but it's only for one line of code (which will work for what you want to do)

Most HTML editors also have it build in (it might be called "find & replace")

If you wanted to search for multiple lines - like if you had coding for a banner on a page & it was 3 lines long, you can use http://www.funduc.com/search_replace.htm for it :)

Hey AndyS Chop Smith turned me on to www.editpadpro.com
You can download a trial version for free

with editpadpro you can open all the files you need to change and do them all at once

I had tp do it a couple weeks ago and it's pretty slick doing it that way

AndyS you might want to look into learning how to input includes into your future designs so that all you have to do is update one simple html file to update all of your sites pages at once.

That's not really practical when you're talking about swapping out link codes, but it is good to know for headers & footers.

Help. Greenguy somehow your favicon changed my bookmarked webmail icon to yours

Hi,
While cleaning junk off my computer (registry and all) I went to check my webmail from my host. All of sudden the icon for my webmail changed to your favicon . I have this forum as my homepage. I just want to let you know this. How do I remove your favicon? I like this board and all, but copyright issues and this was an honest snufu. Thanks

Greenguy 2005-01-23 06:30 PM

I have no idea why it happened nor do I know how to get it removed from there :(

But it works fine for recips. I read about it at voltar´s and the guy who wrote about it uses ssi for recips when he´s working from his laptop.

I assumed thats what it was for being that he said it was 50 links maybe its my mistake.

If you don't mind me asking were they sponsor link or a navigational links?

"Help. Greenguy somehow your favicon changed my bookmarked webmail icon to yours"

You can probably just go to you webmail page and re-bookmark it.

Greenguy 2005-01-24 05:15 PM

I assumed that a number of links that went to the same target meant that they had to find the same link on a butch of pages & replace it with a different one.

AndyS 2005-01-25 04:02 AM

joeblack it is a number of sponser links to free hosted sites or free sites I have built.
Greenguy your right its the same link but used in different niches and hence on different pages.
