Torn, honestly, seeing lord stanley traded between whiner millionaire babies isn't any better.

The NHL can drop tomorrow, others will follow with better initial ideas, and the rest of the cry babies can play in the euro league for $3,000 a game.

If I could figure out who to sue I would for taking away my relaxtion time, this has caused some serious distress in my winter routine.

The last proposal I saw from the league looked very good, I'm not taking sides I just want to see some good hockey soon!

I think it's stupid. The owners have all the rights in the world as far as I'm concerned. It's their biz. The players have their rights to as without them there is no league. If they don't like a cap then forget it. But...I wish I had the choice of playing under a salary cap and only making 4 million a year rather than 8 million as they are trying to keep the salary cap out.

I feel for the poor bastards that make 500K to 2 million where this has sooooooo little effect on them. Their salaries would drop from 2 million to 1.5 million. Not a big deal and I bet they wish they had no PA right now fighting for them.

I agree, the owners are in the business to make $, and when the league is losing $ but still players want $30+ million I think that is just stupid....

But it still is no where near as bad as baseball, there is a sport that needs to close up shop and move on, it is disgusting what they are paying players who are average if anything, and even the “golden boys” are making too damn much, and the idea that the Yanks can “buy the championship” is just wrong when teams like Pitt spend less then 25% on their entire payroll then the Yanks do. I read last year that the Yanks made less then $500k in profits, due to the payroll.

But I think this will kill the NHL, which bothers me more since it has been around for so long, there is no way a strike will save it, the Americans already could care less for the most part, so why annoy them that much more?

Baseball never recovered, I doubt hockey will either. People in Detroit are unbelievably fucking gonzo over hockey, and when Detriot hockey fans are sickened it does not bode well.

I think the players are scumbags. And the fact that Calgary went to the Stanley cup at roughly 35 million dollar payroll sure helps the owners case.
I agree I don't think NHL will recover especially the Canadian teams or western Canada anyway.

If we were players we would want as much money as we could, we do the same now, looking for the highest payouts or the best conversion ratios. Yet I agreee with the owners not wanting to lose money every year either, there has to be a middle compromise, unfortanetly I dont think that will happen until the season or seasons are lost. Remeber the owners have other sources of income ones that make them money, the players are now almost working for a normal salary and that will get tired very fast for the top end guys which are the ones that need to fold to save the nhl.

The problem is that the players should not be making money anywhere other than there strike pay. Is that not what a strike is?

They are stealing jobs from guys out there that cannot make the NHL and if they are prepared to go play for next to nothing in Europe or the minors why can't they do it here?

How would they feel if all the minor league guys and Europeans came and replaced them here?

And the thing is Krazytrain is that we are actually the owners not the players.

I agree that they are stealing jobs and shouldn't be allowed to play anywhere else for money, they can play all they want for free, if we were the owners i think the strike would be over by now as I wouldn't have 5 or 6 talks in 5 months to try and solve it, talks would be daily till everyone was sick of it and finally gave in.

Why are Bettman and Goodenow still being paid they aren't doing anything and there is no season?

Those two clowns should not have been involoved in this collective bargaining aggreement imo.

Baseball is the next sport that will suffer greatly because of ignorant large market teams trying to buy wins. The price of some of these players is already nuts, and over time it is just not going to work out.

The NHL desperately needs a salary cap so that they can control costs and keep the ticket prices in the "reasonable" range. The canadian teams are happier now that the exchange rate is better (because they sell tickets in $CDN and pay salaries in $US). But that doesn't completely solve the issue of having a calgary compete with a NY rangers.

The whole thing could fall on their heads.

NHL will recover...it's not like we're going to start watching rugby or cricket. Still, this is one of the few times I side with the owners.

Minor League baseball...I ended up not watching the majors anymore and just concentrate on a minor league ball team that plays near me (Go Ducks). It's kinda nice to see people playing just because they love the game...as most will never make the majors.

This is all just insane. I am a huge hockey fan it is just disturbing this shit is even happening. These professional athletes get paid way too much for what they do. Lets start bringing in the younger, more willing players, more stars will emerge. I remember here in Detroit when Federov got that big as s paycheck. Next thing you know beers are like $10 a piece, ticket prices went way up.

The fans are the only ones who really suffer as it costs more and more to go to a game, and we don't get to see hockey during the strike. I remember you used to go to a hockey game for about $75-100 for a couple people back in the day. Now I don't think you can even buy a ticket to Joe Louis arena for less than $100 and if you can they are nosebleeds or standing area only. I know the tickets I used to get were $225 per seat (10 rows from the glass) and that was back around 96-98. I can't imagine what the seat prices are now for that same seat. I mean i bet it costs $100 for beer, nachos/pizza at the arena anymore. Just getting WAY out of hand.

ANd I thought the prices were bad in Boston

but one thing I will say about Harry Sinden is he always tried to keep contracts done...I didn't always agree with his tactics (took Ray Bourque to Arbitration for one) I think a great seat in Boston would go for about $150 now and they do promotions like $10 night etc...

but I do not think the NHL can live wothout a salry cap...baseball was dumb for its "luxury tax" it doesn't guarantee the owners will use the money they get from the Yankees, Red Sox and whoever else goes over for players

at least the NHL plan had a minimum salary on it

They should bring in scab teams...hell when the NFL did that it was some of the worst, but also entertaining football I've seen in awhile.

It's over - the announcement to cancel the season will be made on Monday (and might be made over the weekend to get it lost in the superbowl).

The last talks finished today, both sides left looking VERY unhappy, and nothing constructive came out. Players are not willing to live WITH a salary cap, and the owners are no longer willing to work without one.
