Why don't more adult sites run polls?

Why don't more adult sites use polls? Seems like a great idea to get specific feedback from our surfers about any topic we want. And they're popular on a lot of the mainstream sites... so what's the deal, are surfers turned off by them? :)

Torn Rose 2005-02-10 12:25 PM

We use a poll in our member’s area, and some of the results are surprising to me, but over all I would estimate only 20% of surfers use them.

I like using them just so I know if the surfers like something or don't like something, but getting them to use one is not easy.

Because Adult sites will hear what they don't want to hear.

I had this discussion with a client years back. They created a poll like:

What do you think of our members area?
Too Slow
Not Enough Content
Too Hard to Navigate
Can't see menus, I'm not using IE

I asked them where they came up with the options, they said, well, they're problems on the site. If a site owner knows there are problems, why do they need to ask the surfer?

I think a poll like that predisposes the surfer to the answers that the sponsor doesn't want to hear.

I would much rather have a textarea box that asked for a surfers comments.

If you're talking about polls and voting on whether a picture set or video is hot, I've seen a number of attempts at it, but, surfers generally don't tend to take the time that they used to.

However, I do have one site where the average visit time is 251 seconds. :)

So, there are things that get surfers involved.

On a previous version of my TGP I had a poll asking surfers what their favorite niche was and I listed a load of choices. Who would have guessed that on a site named Whoring Wives that people were most interested in the Mature, Amateur, and Wives categories? Go figure.

Torn Rose 2005-02-10 12:47 PM

I have not asked "is this hot or not" since I can not do nothing with that answer.

Here are some of the polls I have had:

What size image do you want?
800x600, 1024x768, etc (1024x768 had 96%)

What length of videos do you want?
(1-5 mins, 5-10, 10-15, 15-20 (5-10 had majority)

What do you want more of?
Pictures, videos (Videos had 80%)

Who do you want more pictures with? (I listed all the girls we have shot with in the past that are still online and who we trust enough to still work with)

What kind of videos do you want more of?
Interracial, facial, cream pie, cum shots, g/g, solo, (Cream pie had slight majority)

These are just a few of the polls, and it is majority rules, so I tell them in the news area and on our message system to please make sure they vote since we do listen to what they say.

All images since Jan 1 2005 are 1024x768, I have the updates a ratio of 4 videos to 1 image, videos are 5-10 min on average now, and we are setting up times to meet some other girls.

I really don't know. Maybe we should do a poll on it.

Can we have a poll on the best polling script?

Verbal 2005-02-10 02:38 PM

Yeah, I mean polls like Torn mentioned, those would be especially good for a paysite member's area... to get more of a turnout maybe you could offer them a chance to win a free membership for life or something lol. But I was actually trying to think of poll questions to put on a link list:

How many paysites have you ever joined?
What is a reasonable fair price for a monthly paysite membership?
What is your favorite niche?
What is the best paysite you've ever joined and why? (more of a survey question)

I'm sure I can think of lots more to get a better snapshot of who are traffic is and what they want... I bet the write-in responses would be pretty interesting too heheh. What is a good poll script to use?

I find that I have the best luck with 2 answer polls, that are usually quite short.

Do you like the recent update Y/N?
What is your connection speed? Dialup/Broadband.

Of course, I keep a contact form to get members feedback as well.

Point noted. I will have one on one of my upcoming sites and see how it works. Definitely worth trying.

Hi guys, we used to run polls on our sites a few years back but found that so few members voted we were actually falling into the trap of tailoring the sites to suit a minority of members.

Polls are a great idea and are going to become a more important tool as time moves on but the skill with polls is in how you ask the questions and then how you get the maximum number of members to vote.

Get the maximum input from the members and then polls should be THE vital tool to help you keep them happy.

Far-L 2005-02-11 02:38 PM

We do run polls from time to time but I am much more inclined to use our review system which combines commentary with a best from 1 to 10 type polling feature.

That is awesome and allows us to give viewers "top rated" type content which members love.

Mystery Man 2005-02-11 02:46 PM

I use it on one of my free sites www.littlemidgets.com and have had much luck with it
all feedback is always nice. Especially to find out demograpics and origin of your surfers.

RawAlex 2005-02-11 04:29 PM

Why not take a poll and find out?

Alex
