A serious Charles and Camilla question

One of the big obstacles to the wedding was the implied insult to Americans, if they married and Charles became king. The compromise solution has been to let them marry, let him be king, but not let her be called queen.

I have often wondered if anyone in America really did feel insulted, so as the majority of people on this board are Americans, can I ask you:

1. Would you have felt insulted if Charles and Camilla became king and queen.

2. If so, are you happy with the compromise (he becomes king, but she does not get to be queen). Or do you still feel insulted.

But if they marry she WILL effectively be queen - she will still go everywhere Charles does, be on his arm everywhere she can't be now - she will just have the title of consort added to her name.

She would be 'Her Royal Highness Queen Camilla Consort'

YUK !! |angry| She is Gross!

Why on earth would we be insulted? Ugly people get married every day.

Greenguy 2005-02-14 09:02 AM

I'm still trying to figure out why I care - I could see if it was 1775, but our ancestors kicked their ancestors asses outta here a long time ago :D

Wild_Unicorn 2005-02-14 11:16 AM

It matters to people in the US as Blair is Bush's Puppy Dog, and the fact that over 41% of the UK's tourism market comes from the states.... People there must care what goes on here to want to visit...

dareutwo 2005-02-14 02:40 PM

It may matter to some, but like GG, I could really care less. Why CNN spent an hour covering the crap made no sense to me either.

I can't really think of any American that gives a shit what these people do. Pretty much the same when Dianna was alive. I was sad that she died but I didn't lose any sleep over it.

That seems odd...Does anyone really think anyone in America cares what they do?

ecchi 2005-02-14 03:45 PM

Thanks, since no one knows the reason they should feel insulted, I guess the answer is no.

Greenguy 2005-02-14 06:11 PM

And while were talking about caring - I don't give two fucks if Iraq has an election or not - pull out & let them sort things out :D

Jim 2005-02-14 06:24 PM

I do enjoy the results of the Iraq elections though. The US puppet government comes in 3rd :) Sweet

I think he should follow the historical precedent.. abdicating for the woman he loves.

What does the King and Queen have do with the Blair government. They damn sure have nothing to do with us rednecks, except Camilla might remind some of my cousins. Please, just put the flag over Camilla's head before she brought into public.

ecchi 2005-02-14 11:15 PM

RE - "What does the King and Queen have do with the Blair government" Nothing really.

RE - "They damn sure have nothing to do with us rednecks" And there was me thinking the "rednecks" were the first to start throwing chairs when someone dis'ed America.

Blair and the Monarch have lots associated...

It's becuase that's the way the monarch works in this country - The PM and the rest of the government tell the queen what to say...

If she said what she really thinks of things as readily as her husband she would be fucked... Prince Phillip is well known for putting his foot in it and saying the wrong things. |king| lol

The whole lot is bureaucracy. To be honest if I were Amarican and had no intentions of never leaving Amarican soil, I would feel the same way.

To be honest half of what was shown in the US was probably screened by the palace or the govornment anyway.

The British Royal Family started to go bad around the time of Henry VIII. |king|

Just because the Pope wouldn't let Henry get divorced.

It's just whatever suits them at the time, and it seems to me that all they are good for is providing column inches for the newspapers.

The only Queens I care about are the ones I promote!
