looking for conversion tips
 

In general, just looking for some hints or tips from the veterans, if you have a site or sites that have a good CTR but bad conversion where do you start to look? I've even taken the same site and used it with a few different sponsors with the same result (pass the lube) so I have to look at it being "ME"....they say admitting your fault is the first step :) Anyway, I didn't want to go through a whole site review piece since one of the sites reviewed decently a while back...was just looking for what the key areas are that are good to check. I'd love to make the on the bench sessions but sat afternoon is about the ONLY time that is bad.

well if you want to make your conversions better then I suggest filtering as much as possible

separate your traffic sources and send the traffic to sponsors that will work best with the traffic source you have

lets pretend that I don't understand 100 % what you meant by that :) haha

immm ok you have a site that is getting good clickthrus but bad conversions

possible causes imo.....

you are making false or other wise misleading claims in your advertising and as such when the surfer gets to the paysite he is dissapointed and simply backs out.

Another thing is the sponsor site might not match the type of porn they are looking for and they are just clickign cuz they are curious

your sponsors site might simply suck - try another one on the next free site you build

You must give the surfer what they are looking for, you don't know what they are looking for? Than you have to give them options to go to and hopefully they choose something they buy ;)

If you sincerely want to improve your conversions.. then you should really invest 1 hour per week and attend OTB with MML.

It is one of the best investments you can make for your once and future business.

Do a little project. Go to google right now and type in "mature porn" (or pick a niche), now write down or bookmark the top 15 or 20 link sites that show up. (maybe repeat on yahoo and condense to top 15 or 20).
Now visit them and surf a bit. See a sponsor of yours underpromoted there? Good, now build a free site in that niche that meets the requirements..

Simple maybe. You already do it maybe. But filtering doesnt *start* at your index page.. it starts way before that, so use some basic tools and ideas to get a pre-qualified surfer to your site.

Also build your sites ads with the sponsor tour and members area in mind (request a members area pass, it can only help and can never hurt to ask). Use the info to accurately reflect what is actually there. Then the surfer see's the tour and see's you didnt bullshit them and promise them the moon. Gives some positive reinforcement in their mind.

Basically keep factoring out random luck as much as possible every step of the way.

I'd even suggest using campaign/banner tracking codes on your sponsor links wherever available. It's more data to use. If an ad spot gets you 90% of your total clicks, you could use that information right? ;)

BTW, thanks for the smart tips bq and PR_Tom. Some guy told me he ignores clicks to sponsors just focus on no. of sales. Now I'm starting to see the wisdom behind that idea.
