TGP - TGP2: what are the differences ?

I've been searching around trying to find out what's the difference between TGP and TGP2.

Thanks,

Bill

In a nutshell, TGP2 galleries have less pics than a normal TGP gallery.

Chop Smith 2005-02-16 03:54 PM

Expanding on GG's reply just a bit
The TGP2 was a movement started by a group of webmasters to curtail the abundance of free porn. The movement called for the use of :
1)No more than five clickable thumbnail images per gallery
2)A maximum of twenty thumbnail images
3)No links to standard TGP sites are allowed on a TGP2 gallery
4)No exit/enter consoles or auto-bookmarking scripts are allowed
It is my opinion that the TGP2 movement failed

tortus32 2005-02-16 04:10 PM

TGP2 sounds like a pain in the a$$ - lol!

How could that possible curtail the abundance of free porn?
They're just adding more free porn.

I could see if somehow this movement got rid of standard TGP pages and replaced all of them with TGP2 pages. But just adding more free porn sites that have less thumbnails and probably just more text links doesn't sound like a solution to anything. It sounds more like they're trying to corner the market on free porn - which sounds like an oxymoron to me.

I'm really new to all this, and these are opinions of a true "newbie" - but I think you're right when saying the movement failed.

One other important fact is that the larger images were on html pages and were clickable. I believe they get better conversion rates, but are harder to monitor for cheaters. There still seems to be a die hard group of TGP2 enthusiasts, and they state that their sites are more profitable than many TGPs.

Some attribute the lack of enthusiasm for TGP2 to the in-fighting and bickering that went on in the group. I made a couple of TGP2 galleries, but other than that, I haven't had much to do with the sites, so my post is really just hearsay. :)

Hiya,

If I recall properly, TGP2 was supposed to be more webmaster friendly and provide less "free" porn for the surfer, thus making the surfer have to go to the sponsor for the real goods. The galleries were supposed to be void of hardcore in most cases and utilize more aggressive advertizing.

I've always felt it was a good idea not to have all my eggs in one basket, so I gave TGP2 a shot, and why not, it was easy to build TGP2 galleries. The big problem I recall with TGP2 was the lack of traffic.

I liked the whole "tease" aspect of TGP2 and personally don't agree with using free hardcore images but without the traffic, you don't have much to work with.

SF

Hi OzKaNoz here

What Chop Smith said is pretty much the way it was in the begaining. However, Things have changed a lot over the last few years with Tgp2. Things run pretty smooth now. The rules are a bit different then from when Tgp2 first started and are the same rules we have had for the last couple of years.
The TGP2 rules are as follows:

1. Only galleries with 5 thumbs will be accepted. No more, no less.

2. Only 1 or 2 movies of 10 to 20 seconds in length, no other linked or unlinked thumbs are allowed on a movie gallery.

3. Non-adult free hosting is not acceptable.

4. Do not place any link on a gallery to a site that will not accept TGP2 galleries.

5. Full size images are strongly preferred to be on HTML and can be made clickable to your sponsor.

6. Images should be at least 450 minimum on longest side and free of compression artifacts. Anything less then 400 and your gallery may not get posted.

7. No talking ads.

8. No entry-exit popups, no onload, on unload or redirect tags.

9. o outright misleading links e.g click here for free entry to pay site!! but semi blind Click for Free Porn is fine.

10. No other restrictions on advertising with in reason so long as the thumbs on the main page and the full-size pictures can be seen clearly.

11. Resubmits will be accepted after 30 days. However, if your gallery is still in our archive it will not be reposted.

12. No child porn, bestiality or rape. This is strictly enforced and authorities will be notified.

Pretty simple I think.
It seems that a lot of webmasters view Tgp2 as trying to take over Tgp. Thats simply not true anymore. Maybe in the begaining Tgp2 was trying to do so but not now. There's room for everybody. But we do wish that Tgps would at lease cut back on the amount of pics accepted.
I mean think about, what good does it do to give the surfer 20 pics or so? There just going to bust a nut and then go watch TV. With Tgp2 it's more of a tease.
A lure to get you horny, a lure to get you to sign up with the sponsor.

And it does work. If it didn't I and all of the Tgp2 webmasters wouldn't stuck with it all these years.

Want to find out for yourself? Sure you do! It would be simple to do. Make yourself a batch of 5 pic Tgp2 galleries as per the tgp2 rules and form. Besure to use a good sponsor and put the full sized pics on HTML pages. Buy you some good traffic from a good source and send it to those Tgp2 galleries and or submit them to the Tgp2 gallery Pool and sites.

You will find that your conversion rates will be much higher.

As you can see I still believe in Tgp2 and am still very passionate about it.

Thanks
Oz

OzKaNoz

Have TGP2 webmaster got into using hostedfreegalleries and/or there any sponsors building any HFG to comply with TGP2 guidelines?

Jimmer 2005-02-16 07:50 PM

Oz is right, if you TGP, why not TGP2. You should tap all sources of traffic available. Just recycle your old tgp galleries by cutting them down to 5 pics and you can get yourself 3 to 4 galleries and submit them to the http://www.tgp2gallerypool.com
Why turn down free traffic?
if you have a domain you arn't using try the http://www.rotateher.com the tgp2 gallery rotation service.

Jimmer 2005-02-16 08:12 PM

I think that cloudcash, epic cash, karups, revsharecash has some now. Need any referal links let me know.

Mr. Blue 2005-02-16 10:03 PM

Hmm, I'm a noob, yes you all can tell that by a few of the posts I've made, but I'm also a fairly seasoned mainstream webmaster. Here's my thoughts on TGP / TGP2.

It seems that too much free porn is given away. When I started making galleries and free sites the only thing I kept thinking about was just how much free porn was given away. To me it never made sense that as an adult webmaster you would give enough porn away where no one would sign up. I still feel this to be the case.

With that said, TGP2 seems like what most adult webmasters should be doing...put a cap on the free porn...increase the desire to signup. If you give 30 pics free on a freesite...15 pics on a tgp, and multiply that by the number of webmasters currently producing such things...why would someone join?

I find that the only time I'm converting now is when I'm doing the extreme niche sites...some of which even turns my stomach a bit. The only reason the softcore / teen sites aren't converting is the flood of free porn in this area.

I'm going to try out the TGP2's for a bit...even if it doesn't have as much traffic I do support the general premise of it.

Head Boy 2005-02-17 03:25 AM

I think one reason that TGP galleries have bad conversion ratios is that the rules are often designed not to sell. A sale from a sunmitted gallery is a lost trade for the tgp owner.

The bad conversion ratios cause some of the less competent gallery builders to turn to cheating, and this is a far worse problem than the odd lost surfer to trade.

tortus32 2005-02-17 05:58 AM

Another problem is that there are tons of TGP pages and galleries already established. If surfers know they can get more free porn on certain sites, why would they stick around or go back to a TGP2 page/gallery? I certainly wouldn't.

The solution would be to do away with TGP galleries. Or at least make them all TGP2 compliant. But how? It seems like a lost cause. If McDonalds is giving away 6 toys in the happy meal and Burger King only gives away 3, I'm gong to McDonalds! - LOL!

That seems to be the way it is these days. What happened to the idea of selling better quality products.

If a paysite has got better quality inside that the tgps, then that should be able to produce sales. If a free tgp has got more and better content than a paysite, then any sales will probably end up as chargebacks or refunds anyway.

tortus32 2005-02-17 06:22 AM

That's true. It's a shame. But what's done is done. You can't un-ring a bell.

I think the quality is still there, it's just taht more of it is given away for free. If anything maybe this forces paysite owners to have even better quality images in their member areas.

I'm pretty new to this, and my first and only niche that I've been working with is foot fetish. So far I can't seem to find any sponsors that have TGP2 compliant foot fetish galleries. I do have my own little paysite and I'm going to try and create some TGP2 compliant galleries of my own - as I do like the concept. I just hope I can find some TGP2 pages that are foot fetish themed to submit them to - lol!

Thanks guys, I've really learned allot from this board.
I can't imagine how I would have learned what I have so far without it!

Well, this starts to make you wonder where tgp owners are making their money. Are they making it from surfers? Or are they making it from the webmasters that submit? lol...here's the theory that I've come up with. Some big tpgs are selling gallery spots $600+ right? If those spots were worth that much why wouldn't the tgp owner make a gallery themselves and just use that spot? Right...that's what I thought.

Still I think there's a lot of good tgps out there. I just think it's moving away from the tgp owner making money on surfers and maybe more of their revenue coming from webmasters.

As a mainstream webmaster and as with other webmasters that just make regular pages...we don't give content of that level away for free. If we do give content away for free people pay for it with popups, popunders, interstitials, etc.

What would make sense would be:
Fewer photos
Lesser quality photos (some places want 50k sized photos...the max should be 40k and 30k on the low side).
Even allow maybe 1 popup per webmaster.

Now if all tgp's did this the users would have to grin and bear it...you get what you pay for...if you pay nothing for free porn then you really have to bear some annoyances...i.e. fewer photos, lower quality, and maybe a popup, lol.

Head Boy 2005-02-17 08:37 AM

I'm a cynic - I think TGPs make money by selling surplus traffic to webmasters that are starting other TGPs. :D

After all CJs don't even bother with the galleries.

Jimmer 2005-02-17 05:40 PM

Most TGP owners would love for tgp2 to go away for ever. They do like selling their spots and they will continue. You are right, tgps rules make it hard to make a sale.
TGP2 no longer likes to compete with TGP but I think the quality of the galleries is what makes the surfers bookmark my TGP2 and they do come back. The ones that don't probably bought a membership somewere :)

Why would a TGP owner care about TGP2 at all? They certainly aren't taking any traffic.

Cleo 2005-02-17 07:00 PM

One makes many people good money and one gives you that great enjoyment of submitting without burning any real BW or making any real $.

Why would people say so many bad things about something if it didn't make a differance to them. The thing is you can create your own traffic without depending on TGPs. Use all traffic sources available to you. Some people have never really tried, just claimed to have.

No idea what this is in response to. But if it makes you feel better, I definately don't depend on TGPs for my traffic. ;)

Jimmer 2005-02-17 10:29 PM

Whatever the topic was the differance between tgp and tgp2, and someone a few posts up who never really tried it out threw in their 2 cents.
hey, I people make no money with TGP, why do you think you see them up for sale for so often?

Robbo 2005-02-18 05:08 AM

I still make some tgp2 galleries and have a few tgp2`s and hybrid tgps. A few sales here a few sales there what`s the difference. One is less competition for traffic with tgp2 I think. So if you have a good angle on something it`s worth the effort to try it on tgp2. Galleries do convert down to 5 pics easy. And if you are incorporating a tgp2 gallery section on a tgp of your own you can be sure your getting some traffic. Just another option among the many. More infrastructure equals more sales opportunities!

tortus32 2005-02-18 06:17 AM

Ok, this whole thing makes me want to create some TGP2 galleries!

My niche is foot fetish.
Does anyone know of a TGP2 page that I could submit galleries to?
I haven't searched a whole lot yet, but so far I can't find too many. So far just http://www.tgp2gallerypool.com

Thanks,

Bill
