Clarification on main page links?
 

Apparently, I have been under the misconception of what an outbound link is, so I am going to ask the LLs just what they mean.

On the main page of my femdom site, Do As I Say, I have 2 links at the top of the page for very relevant sites - both affiliate codes. I did have a link to an adult mall - again affiliate listings on a separate page in the same directory, as well as a link back to my hub.

I thought that as long as the pages were within the same directory/folder that they did not count as outbound, but were okay. I don't consider the link to the hub to be in the same folder, so it does count as an outbound. If the adult mall counts as an outbound, why doesn't the library? And, what if I wanted to add a list of links? Would that page also count as an outbound, even if it is in the same folder?

Is my misconception what is keeping this site from being listed more places?

If you make money on the links, I count them towards the max 3 links. For example:

* Hubs
* Sponsor links
* Email Collectors
* Link to other free sites
* Link to your own LL/TGP/*

If you don't make money on them, I don't count them. For example:

* ASACP
* NetNanny
* 2257 link (as long as it doesn't have any ads)


It doesn't matter if the links goes to a page in the same folder or to another domain. If pages that resided in the same folder didn't count, people would end up making 20 link moneybars that lead to an FPA that was in the same folder just to go around the max 3 ads per page rule.

Is a home page link a special case, or does it count as one of the money links.

For example - can I have a home page link and 2 sponsor links?

I'm assuming here that the main page is in a sub-directory, and the home page is the domain index page.

Three links, don't care where they link to.

I count it towards the 3 links.

With free sites, it's important to think WITHIN the box. Don't get overly creative or attempt to market too much with any one site, especially if you are new to the game. You must drop the mall from this site. But I would get rid of the library as well. That's a shit load of pages that could be better used elswhere.

Also, your mouseover on the the alt.com and bondage.com banners is all wrong. When moused over, the surfer should see the simplied address (no scary affiliate code) of the sponsor link and nothing else. In other words, when I mouseover the first banner I should see http://www.alt.com in the address bar, but I'm reading 'What an incredible way to find a slave/slut...and it's really free!'. It doesn't return to normal when I pull away either.

On the bright side, you still have more room for advertising on your gallery pages.

Got rid of all those nasty mouseovers.. did them right this time. (Thanks, Cleo!). Dropped the Mall, and will drop the Library from anything I submit from here on. Course, I can always remove that at the 5 month update. Some LLs have mentioned the library in their links, so I hate to remove it, especially as it is completely unbannered. On the negative side, some LLs were counting the library as an outbound link. Kinda hard to understand that one.. the pages are all in the same directory and level AND they are unbannered.

Thanks for being so gentle, guys... I will be so glad when I am ready to start building fresh and don't have so much garbage to wade through. If my sites were scattered all over on freehosts, I would not care, but.. they are on my paid domain and I would like to get that back into shape while I relearn and reshape my thinking. You will have me trained right before long!!

What you should ask yourself is this: Why do I want the Library link there if it's completely unbannered?

Glad you posted, I know I said "outgoing links", but a link to that library is an outgoing link to me, regardless of the folder it's in. It's outgoing in the sense that it's not part of the freesite. I also agree with what Swedguy said.

That being said, why don't you put your links that don't fit on the main page, on your index page where you're not using ANY ads? And, you are only use ONE ad on all of your gallery pages, so you have 2 spots available on each gallery page. Thus keeping you at 3 links per page. :)

Back in the old days.. we used to think "sticky" was good. If a surfer spent a long time on a site, that was a great deal. They would be more interested and receptive to our offers, and more would click on the pretty banners. It is also something for the women. It is a theory in use today. Look at how little you buy at the store when you run in for 1 or 2 items and don't stop to look around at anything else. If you pause, even for a moment, you are hooked on something and you will buy more. The longer you spend timewise, the more you buy.

On my BDSM and Lesbian sites, I usually offer my adult mall and library links. More women as well as guys who may realise the need a toy or a gift. As the trend today seems to be ummm.. erhhh.. well, quick and dirty, guess the surfer has also changed radically.
