Do Conversions Go Up With Vids?

What's your opinion on using vids...

Do conversions seem to go up when using vids on a freesite, instead of pics? I have never built a vid clips freesite, but I'm thinking of trying it.

I know bandwidth would go up, but I don't know howmuch. How would you figure out howmuch more bandwidth would increase hosting vids over pics? Any thoughts?

To give you an idea...1 site I submitted to 24 LList in February ate up 16 gb. It had eight 10-15 sec movie clips and I don't think it was even listed at most of the LL.

Now this is just my numbers of course, but it would depend on many different factors. Length & number of clips, where the site is listed would determine how many visitors..etc.

If your movies are really good, surfers might watch them over and over....:)

My advice is if you submit movies be prepared.

Thanks for the info and advice. I'll probably wait a little while longer before I attempt movies.

I can say if you present a movie right it may convert better and bw is out of sight I am over a 1000 gb a month and just stated doing them almost 2 months and that includes a little tgping and 2 or 3 trips to the hun a month I also bought special anti hot linking software installed for 200.00 on my server and I can tell you the hot linkers and boards can eat you alive in bw and also I love the software that lets you see in real time all the page veiws and normal movie requests and hot link attempts and even gives the ips of the hot linkers..

Who developed the software?

But do they get more sales?

I'm thinking of going the other way and writing stories to get more sales. At least if it doesn't work I don't have to worry about bandwidth. :)

Thanks for the info Plateman, I knew the BW would increase substantially, but I didn't expect it to go that high, wow.

I guess I need to move to a dedicated server soon if I intend on growing like to over 1000GB a month. :)

Good info on the anti-hotlinking software, can that not be done with htaccess files?
Or what's the added value?

If you plan on hosting movie clips, 1000GB would probably not be sufficient for your needs (unless you just submit freesites from time to time).

Bandwidth hosting is so cheap nowadays, that pricing shouldn't be much of a concern. If you're really strapped for cash, go with Cogent bandwidth dedicated hosts.

Anti-hotlinking can be done with htaccess, do a search on Google for some tutorials. It's a crude method, but it works to block people who don't want to spend time trying to hotlink your files.
