What are you using now?

Greenguy 2005-03-07 07:54 PM

He's using nothing, which is quite annoying when I need him to look at something & have to email it to him |banghead|

Mine works perfect, always has, doesn't give me any problems at all, must prefer Fruit I guess.

Get Trillian (www.trillian.cc) - Problem solved.

I don't see why you would want to totally remove ICQ if the problem persists (although it's easily fixed by editing the ICQ server IP). Many webmasters use ICQ, and by not using it impedes communication.

ICQ and I have a long love/hate history... I've tried Trillian - loved it/hated it/deleted it... I've gone back and forth and finally downloaded the new Lite ICQ version, which has been much better.

We use Yahoo! for intra-office type stuff and I love it SOOOOO much better than ICQ - wish it were used more in the industry. My kids use MSN/AIM and I really like a lot of the features there as well.

One more thing: Funbrunette - do you have Norton Internet Security? Before blaming any other program, I would check into it possibly being because of Symantec. After blaming my DSL, changing to cable and then blaming them (for connectivity issues), and changing email clients, IM clients and other various programs - on a whim I shut down Norton to see what would happen. Instantly my connection "came back" after 5 hours of cussing/screaming/yelling @ the PC and customer service. It was Norton.

I removed that piece of crap (that I had trusted for YEARS) from my PC and started using something new. So far, no issues - no problems - no crashing PC - no email issues - no lost emails - and I haven't had to reboot in days. I was rebooting several times/day with Norton.

Yesterday my ICQ-lite kept going offline and trying to reconnect. I finally did a hard-boot before it finally let it reconnect.
My other ICQ on another computer never even missed a beat, it's an older verision.
Maybe it was 1 errant server or something on their end |dizzy|

I guess it could also be that I edited files in the ICQ-lite and removed all of the advertising and made some of the files read only ;)

Anyone has any experience with the new ICQ 2005? Is it worth updating my 2003 version or should I just keep the old one?
The 2005 version looks a little like MSN Messenger judging from the screenshots.

I don't see why people dislike Trillian?

What's so bad about it? I'm puzzled, heh.

adamneve 2005-03-10 07:48 AM

my ICQ pro does not connect for weeks already and i hate the icq lite when it logs on and off all day

funbrunette 2005-03-10 08:09 AM

Everything seems to be back to normal now...Thankd God! I can't live without my ICQ!!!! |bow|

Btw, for those having problems connecting to an ICQ server, you can edit your current server with the list of servers here:

http://hemsidor.torget.se/users/r/REXE/servers.html

Most of the time, changing the server works out the connectivity problems.

i use/love trillian. i'm logged in with 2 of each accounts right now (icq, aim, yahoo, msn). it's a lot nicer using one program/contact list and being able to login to multiple accounts at once.
