How long have you been in the adult biz? how many free sites, avs sites, tgp gallerys have you made? I would not advice you to start out by doing paysites and affiliate programs before you have a good insight into the 3 others I stated above.:)

Hope you have lots of traffic and real deep pockets.

virux 2003-10-23 07:58 AM

Cleo, I sure would like to see this discussion expanded.

It seems that with the fallout of AVS' that small paysite might be the ticket. Assuming that someone has been building free sites, avs sites, tgp gallerys for a couple of years and have their feet fairly wet in the biz and they are not using free hosts and free content, it seems that their pocket would not have to be much deeper. I realize that their content cost would probably increase as they would need higher quality content. What other hidden cost do you see?

virux 2003-10-23 05:06 PM

now this is what i'd don't mind to hear from Chop Smith...

whenever i post for some information on something... people always go asking about the money problem....
or they go saying how many galleries you done.. how many freesites.. how many tgp you own.. how much traffic....

im basically just asking for information...but then i get questions back instead of receiving answers |jester|

Virux, the most reliable people in the biz frequent this board. When they answer with questions, it is either to further the discussion or to make the person asking the question think about other possibilities. Be patient you will get your answer. It might not be what you want to hear, but it will be valuable info.

I am currently working on a rather large pay site and am very interested in the input from the seasoned professionals here. I might just end up using the AdultVerifier Ultra program and I think using them would be a gamble, but isn't everything?

Tommy 2003-10-23 05:57 PM

some of your expenses are going to be

content - pics, videos, plug ins
hosting - feeders etc and for the pay site
scripts - password managment, traffic and billing
traffic - sort of self explainitory
graphics - tours, banners fpa, members area stuff, gallerys

I actually had a paysite at one time. It was back when it was hard not to make money and did pretty decent for me. Later on it stopped doing so well and I realized I was doing better in marketing rather then running a paysite.

AVS sites were nice for a sort time, but things are really fucked up there now.

I just always try to give a little warning when I see someone asking about opening up a paysite since I see so many newbies come into this business thinking that is the way to make lost of money.

I do think that there are already way too many paysites and unless you have something new it is doubtful you will do well.

Chop Smith 2003-10-23 06:32 PM

Thanks Cleo and Tommy. |yourock

Perhaps we can hear from some folks that just reasonly started their own paysite. Maybe one of the Extreme guys or one of the United Pimps will reply.

virux 2003-10-23 08:16 PM

yes indeed... there are too many paysites... there's too many tgp's...too many galleries... too many avs sites... to many free porn... but hey... since everything is too many... we all might as well just quit right?

Or you could invest the time and money and do it better than others before you. The adult biz is like most business. Those that prepare survive and of course it doesn't hurt to have those deep pockets to survive the lean times. It is a fact that most businesses do not turn a profit in there first two years.

Speaking of investing. You probably get most of your questions answered by spending a few hours in reading these articles:

If I decide to go with the paysite, I will affiliate with a group of webmasters that already have 76 affiliates. Sometime back Bell told me that if I ever did one that she would sign on as an affiliate. Therefore, you could be number 78. |shake|

Glad to furnish you with the links. I print links like those out every night and take them to bed with me. Too old to do anything in bed but read. |jester|

virux 2003-10-24 04:33 AM

I think a paysite is worth doing if you have a fresh angle or you have unique content.

Like everything in porn these days, it's easier to work with a niche. If you open a general paysite with no specific niche interest, you will have a much steeper hill to climb.

Niche is the key. :)
