Purdue will make basketball history tonight!

Yep, that's right; Purdue Women will go down in the record books as being the 880th win of Pat Summit of the Tennessee Lady 'Vols.

2 years ago this would be a match up to see, but if Purdue loses by less then 20 I will be shocked.

Summit is currently tied with Dean Smith for all time victories, and before she is done I think she will be the first, and maybe only, 1000 game winner.

TN wins by 21

Huge congrats to Coach Summit and the Lady 'Vols, a classy program and a classy coach.

I'm not sure Purdue wanted to be in the record books.

That guy has run a good program for a long time.

That is one record you don't want to be in for. But Coach Summitt has really helped to put women's basketball on the map & is a great example for women every where, so it can help make the pain of defeat more bearable.

lol.....We are Purdue fans but we are also big fans of Coach Summitt & her team (not any of the other Tenn. Vols teams). :D

We didn't think Purdue had a chance against them this year, just the reality of it.

Pat Summit is on a different playing field, her own.
I'm glad she got it.
She could end up with over 1000 total. Which would never be broken.
Right time, right place, right person :)

She’s 53 now, so at least 10 more years (I would guess) with 24 wins per year average..... 1100 to 1200 is so easy for her and 1500 is possible.

She’s has NEVER not made the NCAA’s and has NEVER not made the sweet 16.

They renamed the arena there in TN "The Summit" last night, which just proves how good she is. And she has been offered the men’s team job in the past and has turned it down saying "how would that be a step up?"

dareutwo 2005-03-23 09:33 PM

10 more years of coaching I think will be a stretch, I'm thinking 5.
I think it's just too hard of a job... mostly collegiate BS.
Her son will be playing HS by then.
We'll see.
I'd love to watch her for another 10 years, as long as they don't play MN.. :)
(on a side note - McCarville 2nd team all american??? She'll be one of the top 3 draft picks)
