Email boxes on sponsors tours
I'm getting worried that I might be losing potential sales to the email boxes at the start of sponsors tours. Does anyone know how many surfers continue with the paysite tour after they've signed up for the email?
Of course if the sponsor gives you credit for any upsells it's not relevant. |
sponsors will probably tell you that it doesn't affect signups.... I personally think that is bullshit... it seems to be getting worse with all the e-mail boxes, huge popups covering half the tour page, and floating ads meant to sell the surfer on something that you don't get credit for
|
The email boxes piss me off, and I've yet to see a sponsor say they credit anyone for joins generated by those emails.

Desperate is, as desperate does.
Maybe, FINALLY, we'll see the real sponsors come through contraction. |
I've just been involved in a discussion on this where it was stated that signups were worse than 1 in a million impressions. I think that's bollocks because I know what my WEGcash email signups are like. I also don't believe that WEGcash would pay me over a dollar for an email addy if they can't make money from it. I've been hunting around, but I can't find any information of the distraction effect that an email box has on a sponsor tour - surely somebody has done some research?

Well the discussion isn't really important as it was a bit GFY style. :)
It did make me wonder how much these offers deflected surfers from their signup paths though. Obviously if you get a surfer to download a blackjack game he'll probably start playing that and forget about the paysite, but what about just registering an email addy that doesn't route him anywhere else? The optin confirmation is going to be a distraction for a start. |
Some sponsors really get too far with all that pop up crap and box stuff for me is classic traffic stealing
|
Some sponsors seem to think they own the clicks you send them, whereas my understanding is that the surfer is mine until he clicks on their site. This means no re-direction, popups, downloads, installs or uncredited sales solicitations until he clicks (and even then I think I should get some credit). I guess it's a bit more complex when he supplied the content to attract the surfer to my site.

Well I guess the popups and cross sells are the reason why a sponsor can pay pretty good $ per signup. But I donīt really understand this thred since moast of them has a no-pup option, that pays a bit less.

I hate popups on tours. One popup isn't too bad.
Email boxes? If you want PPS then you have to accept them. That's how they can pay by collecting emails and using popups since crosssells are basically gone. Check who uses them and see if you are still converting decently and if they are paying per signup deal with it. If a revshare program uses them then I'd be a bit more pissed. I hate traffic leaks on tours. |
Nice thread, prompted me to look at nichewealth sites. Nice drop down box asking if the surfer 'wants something different' or similar wording. Whisks them off to a different tour without your aff code by the looks of things, and the really arseholey thing is, if you send them from your LL to a console free tour, the drop down box sends them to the console version of whichever site, with about 5 popups, talk about a PITA.

I don't have a problem with them myself. The only ones I have seen, I enter an email address in the box, and never leave the page. The tour continues as usual. Am I missing something? It seems to me it never really interrupts the flow of the surfer, and there shouldn't be a problem with the guy continuing on to sign up. If the sponsor later sends an email, and convinces the guy to buy something, then good for them.

Having being involved in 2 PPS programs and presently running my own private program with multiple paysites, I know how easy it is to pay $30+ per signup with average retention, even on a trial. Email boxes are simply not needed. Even with soft member emailings, an unchecked cross-sell, and moderate members area upsells I would be making around $47-51 per signup given an average retention on a $3.95 trial. Plenty of room for $30 pps. Again these are my experiences with my sites with only around 11000 joins data. Traffic leaks on tours are an unnecessary $ grab in my opinion, and thats all it is ... my opinion. Then again I am coming from a background where getting affiliates and traffic has been an uphill battle. If I was raised in the '96-'97 days i am sure my outlook would be quite different. |
I've posted elsewhere that personally, I dont care to see them on the tour I send traffic to. But it's something entirely within my control, so I dont complain about them. I mean simply that I dont have to send traffic.
It's not my site any more than link-o-rama is my site. It's similar to pressuring GG to remove some of his banners so that we get more ad exposure.. We could TRY, lol.. But it's really kind of arrogant of us to presume that because a surfer of "ours" clicked his recip that we have a say in his site layout and business model. It's sort of like various stats systems. Some count first page raws, some uniques, some qualified and so forth. Thats also something that can be irritating, but we have the option to count our ourclicks before the surfer ever lands on a tour if we choose to. I guess I'm sort of split on it. The bottom line is it's entirely my choice what I feel like linking to, and I use that choice. |

dont like a sponsors tour? dont send traffic NEXT |
I don't think GG's sites are analogous. I think of recips as a small thank you for sending me traffic.
I'm with Blue Quartz on this (for a change :) ). |

I agree there are plenty of sites that retain well enough they could offer PPS fairly without traffic leaks. And there are many sites that cannot. But like was already said, simply send your traffic somewhere else. |
I'm of the school...your traffic...you send it where you like. If a sponsor does something that really annoys you, flip the switch off on them, go to somewhere else.
If you convert really well with the sponsor and still want to stay there...well that's just a price of doing business with them. I think it sucks that there's such a money grab and I would probably just go with another sponsor. |

I suppose you would just stop working and let the traffic play? I am in a situation where I just learned of a sponsor doing a lot worse and at least in my case its not as simply as flicking the switch off. |
I suppose you guys are right, if you dont like them... dont use them :)
One thing that does piss me off is when a sponsor adds the boxes or traffic leaks without telling you. Its not like we all check our sponsor tours frequently. |
