Theater or DVD

Ya know, I used to think that I was the only one that did this, but i am begining to think more and more people are doing this and I wonder what the impact will be on the movie industry years down the road.
I NEVER go to a theater any more...... I mean that too. Honestly, it has easily been over 10 years since I have actually gone to a movie theater to watch a first run movie (or any movie for that matter) and i feel ok with it. I have no need to to spend the kind of money they are asking just to sit in uncomfortable seats, eating soggy pop corn and drinking flat soda when i can wait a few months, rent or buy it on DVD, get to watch it in comfort eating and drinking what I like and have the ability to pause the show to talk during it (or if a member of my family decides its time to explain the finer plot points in detail with everyone else LOL) if i feel like it. Not only that but the DVDs are jammed with special features a shorts that are very interesting. I recently bought the incredibles and the best part of it was Jack Jack Attack on the special features, and if ya watched that movie in the theaters you didnt see it.

To me, the only reason to go to a theater is to see a movie that just won't be the same at home. Any movie with a lot of special effects is just so much better in a movie theater.

I still don't go to a theater very often. The last movie I went out to see was The Polar Express. Before that, a few movies at the Drive In last summer.

I almost never go to the theatre. I know this sounds hard to believe, but I'm really easily annoyed by the people around me at the cinema. If they want to talk, they should have stayed home. So, I'm a dvd kind of guy. We do go to the drive-in a couple times during the summer though. It's a friggin' bargain for one thing. And I love the fact that I can pack the wife and kids into the rusty old SUV, stop and pick up a pizza en route, and chow down while watching the big screen. Good stuff. Much better than dropping a shit load of cash to sit in a noisy cinema, eating day old popcorn, while sitting on someone's chewed gum.

And some nice surround sound. |thumb

Also when you are home you don't miss anything, so if you have to piss(or whatever) you just pause :D

My mom borrows DVD's from me all the time, but she's taken it a step further & has started to request movies that I should buy so that she can borrow them :D

I like going to the theatre as a way to get out of the house with the wife. We went to see Million Dollar Baby 2 weeks ago. The only other time I go is like SpiderMan or Matrix, some big movie event.

I'll go see StarWars for sure when it comes out but at like 3-4pm on a school day. I saw that last Matrix movie on opening day at 4pm and the theatre was half full.

I take the 2 kids that live with me, and drop them off.
I'll run around shopping or anything else to occupy 2 hours.
Then pick them up.
The kids want to go every 3 or 4 months, last one I saw with them was the first spiderman.
Though we also have a whole rack of DVD's that I've never watched, and probably never will.
Maybe it's an every 4 or 5 years event for me :)

I always prefer watching a movie at home, on my couch, with my booze and something like a pizza in front of me too. It's always fun to rewind and see that cool scene a second time.

However, the wife prefers the big screen so I'll go once in a while.

You need a I prefer DVD but I'll go to the theater option.

either way here if its a star wars or some special movie I'll go and watch it and wait or watch it on the 65" tos and play it through the surrond system..
