Separate domain?

This is all new, and if this has been said or asked sorry, I haven’t gotten to that part yet, but what is the better “idea”

A separate domain for a blog like “mypornblog.com”

Or a sub directory such as “mydoamin.com/blog/”

Can I get some thoughts on this please?

The way I figure it, its own url is the best way to go if you're going to invest some time to grow it organically. This is especially important I think if you're going to be covering a unique topic.

Now, if you're going to cover mostly one topic about a site you already own it may be best to /blog/ it.

Lets imagine in Torn's case he's going to have kat start her own blog, putting it at the Kat's url under /blog/ if its JUST about kat doing stuff would be pretty smart.

If its going to cover a wider variety or stuff a new url would be my best suggestion. :)

My thoughts are if your site already has some "name recognition" then you should use the mydomain.com/blog format. For instance, everyone already knows link-o-rama, so if greenguy was gonna start a blog he should use link-o-rama.com/blog

He's not gonna start greenguysblog.com......well he could, but people already know LOR. (lord of the rings? LOL)

Actually greenguy is kind of a bad example because greenguy.com is not his domain name and people are used to knowing him under unmatching domain names. LOL But you get the jist of what I mean.

We are doing it both ways with kblogger.

One is on blogger.com

And, the other, of course, is on its own domain.

it was once said in the adult industry back in 1997 on my icq

"imagine its raining money. Do you want one medium sized bucket, or a whole shitload of smaller ones, to catch that money in?"

I thought about it and at the time went for the one medium sized bucket. I've paid for that decision for years.

There is nothing wrong with running several blogs, hosted at several places. Blogger, live journal, kblogger, yahoo, your own server... and interlinking them all.

As long as you're willing to keep them updated, go for both ;)

That was so well said, Boogie......we paid for that one once and it took a while to recover.....

Diversity and several streams of revenue all flowing in the direction you send it...makes for a mighty big river. :)
