Wordpress Plugins

I think plugins should get its own thread.
I have so far: dofallow deepthoughts (random deep thought from SNL) mood picture glue(this is a must, but is this one the best?) smileys timeofday wordwrap I've got the phps where they need to go, but this tech stuff us beyond me at times. I been working on "deepthoughts" the most since it seems to be the easiest; I just have to put a bit of code where I want it. Problem is, I have looked at the code for the templates over and over and I can’t figure out what I am looking at so I can't place it where I want it. These are just some things I grabbed, the most important ones are dofallow and the ability to post pictures, I don’t care if the make the thumbs automatically or if I have to, I just want to be able to do it, so if there are plugins that post pictures they you think is better please let me know. |
Forgot to ask, which was the main reason I started this thread, is there an "open in new window" plugin?
I'd rather have my links open in a new window instead of leaving my site. |
ok, I've deleted
mood picture glue smileys Since they make no friggin sense to me, I installed "autogallery" since it said it was the easiest and best and it even came with a readme file, and after spending 2 hours on it, I realize I am not able to understand php. I then see that I can already add images to my Blog in the space I write, which is what I was wanting. Are Blogs written for people who have a much higher understanding of php then what I have? I've unzipped 20 or so plugins and only 2 had a readme and I have only gotten one to work. I understand they all go to wp-content/plugins and I understand how to activate them, but the picture galleries and moods and other "images" are in no way easy to understand. |
I have the smileys one. I completely love it. It is so easy now to just click on a smiley when writing and it inserts the code for me. Also I added several custom smileys that I don't come with the default Word Press.

I got my ass kicked by a smilie..... spent a few hours trying to install it and I gave up on it for now.

Hey Torn.
A lot of these plugins involve some hackjobs on your current php scripts. Since they're all written by individuals rather than companies mistakes are sometimes (or often) made and need some corrections. So sometimes its not easy at all to get these things installed. Some things to look out for when trying to install some plugins 1) make sure its been updated for 1.5, most older plugins may not make an ounce of sense 2) if it involves editing your php files make sure that you back up everything to assure nothing goes wrong, and you can easily re-upload the working backup I too have given up on a couple of plugins. Wp-Polls.php for 1.3 was incompatible with 1.5, and by the time the 1.5 version came out it was buggy as hell. took me almost a full day to correct all his problems, but I think my feedback to him helped and he's gotten most of it corrected :) Anyways a little knowledge of PHP doesnt hurt and now is a great chance to learn as you go along. |
