I hate wmv files :(

tortus32 2005-04-29 12:53 PM

I second that, I like mpeg files :D

Mpegs rock :)

Over 90% of our support problems went away when we switched Angel's site to mpeg-1 files.

I believe that is related.

A while back, microsoft removed the ability for .htaccess authentication to work because it transmits the password in the clear. They later readded it, but the bug reappears from time to time.

Another possibility is that you are using referrer protection, and .htaccess protection and have a satisfy any directive at the bottom. WiMP doesn't send a referrer, and thus apache (or whatever web server software you use) will then request htauth from the player.

Actually this problem is with mpegs everytime someone using wm10 try to download an mpeg they have to re enter there username and password because it wants it to be secure server to automaticly send the password. The problem is that we dont want to have to change the entire site to secure server :(

Well it looks like the only solution for members using windows media play 10 is tell them to right click and download them or change the entire members sites to https secure server which I reallllllllly dont want to have to do.

or serve them from a programatically hidden non-authenticated area.

I got only 1 complaint so far, we have agreed with the guy that microsoft are idiots and he switched back to WMP 9

Rocco 2005-05-02 03:24 AM

Mpegs are easier to handle with but wmv regarding quality is the better encoding
