Should I bother?

I have someone helping me with my site as I'm not totlay up on the asp thing. It took me a long time to figure out some of it and even now I'm a little lost. I'm getting there but still freaked out last night when I went to put in my key phrases and words and 90% of the code disappeared off the page. Anyway this person says I should sign up with Overture. I did the pay per click thing with another site a few months back and in my opinion was not that bad. Maybe they sent me hits like there stats showed but I was never able to tell if anyone purchased shows on the site. It was only $100 bucks and I got about 3k worth of hits. For me at the time I looked at it, that if for nothing else it got the word out to some people. When I look in my awstats I see that a good 30% of the traffic I get now is from bookmarks so maybe it was from the ppc. But should I bother with going with Overture or just link trade, banner exchange and work very hard on my SEO? Thanks Jugg..
