Frankly, unless they force all porn sites to get .xxx extensions, what is the whole point in this .xxx thing? I mean I would never willingly buy anything other than a .com personally, I don't know about the rest of you.

If that's the case and if all adult sites have to be on a .XXX a lot of good sites and years of hard work will get lost :(

There isnt a politcian out there that will vote no to legislation to move all Adult Entertainment under the .xxx extention for the "sake of our children".

You can bet your ass that when DNS start resolving the .xxx extention, legislation will introduced and passed by an overwhelming majority.

Start making your plans now folks, by this time next year all you domains are going to be outlawed and worthless. The best you can hope for is somewhere, somehow all the domains you have will be grandfathered to the .xxx extention.

I'll wait to see how this develops before becoming overly concerned. Sure, I might be inclined pick up the .xxx extension for a major site (and redirect it to the .com), but at $60/year they can kiss my hairy white ass too. The implications of *required* .xxx extensions are much farther reaching than you would think at first glance, and would be a huge burden on all the registrars and hosts as well. Plus, there would have to be sort of regulatory body (with a fuck of a lot more than 7 or 8 people) to review, enforce, blah, blah, blah.

This is one more thing to keep an eye on for sure, but seeing that they're pricing the domains at $60 and in the same breath saying that "some will choose to keep using their .coms" I'm going to just sit back and keep an eye on this. Of course, they'll see a fuckload of sales for highly targeted keywords that have all the standard tlds registered already, such as sex, pussy, voyeur, etc. This will create a huge influx in revenue for ICANN, which I'm sure is their whole point in going along with it.

People who want to protect their kids already have filtering software installed, and you're not going to prevent access to .xxx sites without filtering software, so the net effect of this will be exactly dick in regards to "protecting" anyone.

And furthermore, whatever happened to 'Freedom of Speech'? Unreal. I knew it was a VERY sad day for the "free world" the day that communism collapsed into nothingness. Look at what capitalism has 'evolved' into. It seems everyday more and more of our so-called 'Rights' are being callously violated while our 'Freedoms' are ever so softly being taken away. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a commie by any stretch at all. It just seemed that 'capitalism' behaved more rationally when there was some competition to keep things 'balanced'. Your probably asking "well, what about China?" I honestly feel that China is only communist for the time being. As soon as the old guard dies off they will become a form of capitalism the likes of which we have NEVER seen. I really do hope that America wakes up - and soon. Its like watching a friend trying to get it together. Try as they might you sadly see them deteriorate into a shadow of their former self.

I emailed Stuart Lawley President, ICM Registry Inc. with this question:
"I just saw a piece on this new top level domain name on CNN and I am wondering when it will be available to begin purchasing domains?"
His reply:
"We will be expecting names to go on General Sale to members of the Community in the 4th Quarter of 2005. Prior to that there will be a period whereby potential registrants that have Intellectual Property interests in specific names can come forward to register that interest in those names and such names will be equitably allocated and subject to a recognized dispute resolution policy , where more than one party makes a claim over a particular domain name. There will be continual updates on our website containing plenty of notice to make sure all would-be registrants have appropriate time to prepare and make any necessary."

Whew.... thats reassuring! I get to eat crow today.. My prediction of worthless domains is wrong.

Now we wait and see if the US government forces all Adult Entertainment to the .xxx extention.

They haven't done anything except to say that some dumb law has been passed.

Wake me up when the powers to be actually start seizing servers or go to other countries and start trying to arrest people. They might as well tell Fonz that he is no longer allowed to have sex with Cheetos.

The government could never make all adult websites switch to xxx domains unless they were first able to decide what is actually considered adult.

actually dumb law wasn't passed, the admin branch re-wrote the law but didn't bother to get it through the house, the senate, and signed by the president.

That is piss poor news.

I love the part that says, many webmasters will buy the xxx extention, and the problem people will continue to buy up the .coms with keywords that appeal to the kiddles.
