Supreme Court rules against Medical Marijuana

"The Supreme Court ruled that federal authorities may arrest and prosecute people whose doctors prescribe marijuana to ease pain, concluding that state laws don't protect users from a federal ban on the drug."

I know I should not be surprised... but 6-3 is more then I expected.

Guess all the drug giants that have been proved over and over again that they do not care what side effects their drugs do to people as long as they make billions has won their case.

What a proud day to be an American, where the Federal courts care more about drug companies making billions while Americans suffer.

So much for state's rights.

So much for the rule of evidence.

All hail our Federal Overlords!

And in other news cloning is bad, sex is bad…

RawAlex 2005-06-06 02:39 PM

Drugs are bad, M'kay?

Torn Rose 2005-06-06 02:40 PM

I read an interesting "letter to the editor" from my home town a few weeks ago, his wife was in the Dr's office for cancer and the Dr replied "not one illness has been cured since these large drug companies started making billions, they just find things to treat the illness not cure it"

That nails it on the head, polio, small pox and how many other killers have been CURED before there was money to be made by keeping people sick.

The SMARTEST thing the Federal government could ever do is make pot legal to all, package it like cigs and enforce the same rules on it as alcohol, and grow/sell it themselves keeping the profits for Federal/State use.

Imagine the surplus; we would be a debt free nation in less then 10 years with better schools and better hospitals with heath care for all. But then the drug companies’ wouldn’t make 100 billion a year... just a laughable 10 billion or so.

The terminally ill druggies, that's what's destroying our society! Get themselves all hopped-up on mary jane so they can't suffer properly. What are these people thinking?

Sarah_Jayne 2005-06-07 10:45 AM

Hopefully none of them are ever in such pain that they need it.

true...though I will say this - my husband had pain that only pot touched. Well, that isn't true. Twice he had the doctors give him morphine to take away the pain but sadly it also took away his brain.

Wh is alcohocol legal and pot illegal?? Have you ever seen a violent weed smoker?
I'm lucky to live in a country where smoking a big fat spliff is tolerated :D
Peace out!

Hell, my doctor told me he would write me a script for pot anytime to replace all those other drugs. Hurts being old!

And it is legal in Canada.

Shark 2005-06-13 09:06 PM

I'm really impressed by the reasoning the court uses in cases like this. Particularly a court that supposedly all hoped up on 'states rights'.

All narcotic type drug laws use to be state laws. Often used against minorities such as the Chinese, or the mary jane laws in the south against blacks.

The federal drug laws come under the interstate commerce clause of the constitution.

So what do pot growers in California that use it for medical reasons, but not to sell, especially in interstate commerce, have to do with the interstate commerce clause?

Well the government argued that by growing and distributing amongst themselves they are affecting the illegal interstate market!

You got reach deep where the sun don't shine to pull that one out |dizzy|

My prediction: The Feds will legislate that unmarried sex (or something like that) is illegal. They will argue that it they have the ability to regulate it since unmarried people having sex affect the interstate call girl market.
