Redirecting, 404, Oh, The Confusion
 

Can someone please help me.

I posted that I was taking down my sites, removing hardcore pics and banners, etc.

One of our kind LL owners here told me that I still have sites redirecting.

Ok, told him/her to just take my sites down cuz I'm confused.

Then he was nice enough to tell me that "It's a good idea to send it to a plain 404 page, not redirect it."

Please someone tell me what that means.

Do I have to change that ht access code thingy?

I think what they are saying is put:

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.dreamypleasures.com/2257404.html

you would have to put that in each directory that you removed -- lest you change your site default.

and then on that page say something like: The US Government doesn't want you to see this page, hit back to go back from whence you came.

nah, I think the consensus is:

If you're going to redirect galleries, redirect them to a page that basically isn't a traffic pump. Give the surfer the chance to go back to the original site rather than just 'take' the traffic. Its a two-way street out there.

I read it somewhere this morning, but, cannot find the reference. Of course, I could be wrong. :)

Looks like you got the advice from others here...but noticed you have jcctopsites.com in your rewrite...which is (or rather was) my toplist. I just sold it including my joeyscuteclub to another so I can concentrate on 69toplinks and my 69topsites toplist....I am curious though, what site is it you had (or have) at jcctopsites??
