.xxx Approved by ICANN
Will this do more harm than good?
".XXX has been approved. A few days ago, ICANN -- the quasi-government corporation that oversees the internet’s naming and numbering system, approved the .XXX top level domain. .XXX will operate much like .COM does now -- meaning it will be a domain name people can type into their browsers to take them to a website -- but similar to the way .GOV is reserved for governmental organizations, .XXX will be reserved for pornographic or adult content websites. Current expectations are that .XXX will be available for purchase and use by year’s end." What Go Daddy founder Bob Parsons has to say on the matter. |
what a surprise a domain registrar in support of a new TLD that rapes the pockets of adult webmasters
fuck 2257 fuck .xxx and while we are at it fuck the FCC!!!!!!!! |

So now if kids want to find porn sites quickly and easily they can just look for sites with .xxx domains.

all .xxx is gonna do is fuck up the SERPs for those of us that are targeting "xxx" |angry| and the only reason that registrars and such are supporting it is becuase it will line thier pockets.... it opens up millions of domain names for them to make money on... how about we all decide just not to use it, keep business as usual, and it will be a big fucking flop and will go away... and if it is "imposed" on us it will be shot down so fucking quick in the courts that we will all get rug burn from being shot out of our comfy little office chairs (or in my case my king size bed)

It seems we could make it work to our advantage by snatching up the same domain names we have now in the .xxx domain.

The best thing to do would be to boycott the new .xxx domain, but that could only happen if the link list and TGP owners agreed to blacklist that extenstion. |
Can I ask a dumb question?
Can ICANN close down adult sites that do not use .xxx? All they did was approve it for use - and I assume they approved other extensions that didn't exist before last week - but none of them are getting this kinda coverage - unless there a message board full of travel agents screaming about the .travel extension that I don't know about. |
XXX can only be bad. It's a blind alley. But it matters only if Google etc decree that it matters.

If xxx is just for adult, how does this affect domain squatting ? For example, if I had set up www.google.info before Google got to it, they could get it off me, but Google is not a porn site, so if I buy www.google.xxx what right do they have to claim it?
( And speaking of domain squatting how do I pre-order www.greenguyandjim.xxx ? :D ) |

Who are these "large players" in the industry that are supporting the xxx thing - I have yet to see one person that I know to be heavily involved in this biz support it - for that matter the only people I have seen support it are the guy that had the brilliant idea to push it in the first place to make a killing for his own biz and a few registrars that jumped on board when they saw how much they could make.

I know CyberNet Entertainment has been a long time supporter of .xxx but they seem to be stepping back some now. Here's a quote from their web site... Quote:

Smutferret - thanks - guess Ive got a sponsor to remove :)
Seems that us responsible WMs need to do the things we have been all along like using the pics label etc. And if the parents and orgs that really are wanting a way to do this - the .kids tld has been put off so many times its ridiculous http://www.icann.org/tlds/report/kids4.html - note the comments in the opposition to the application: "Another concern was that voluntary separation of content on the web could eventually turn into forced separation and restrictions on free speech" Hmmm - seems like they just approved one that does exactly the same thing :) added - just a little history - the .kids tld was recommended to congress in 2001 - and still sits there |
I exchanged several emails with new.net about .xxx and it simply came down to them saying that there is nothing more they can do. They had originally told me they would refund my money if I recently purchased any xxx domains through them. Then they said that if ICANN approved .xxx as a TLD then there would be the ICANN version AND the new.net version. For those of you who are not familiar with new.net, you have to install a browser plugin in order to view their extensions such as .kids, .xxx, .family etc etc.
So two things could happen when a surfer types in sex.xxx for example. The first being he would see the domain registered through ICANN. The second being his ISP or browser has the new.net plugin so he will only see the new.net version of sex.xxx. Should be very interesting to see if this really happens. I don't see new.net being allowed to offer .xxx anymore and that anyone with a .xxx with new.net has just lost money... but I could be wrong. |

well i dont know what the noise is about but if we will have also .xxx is it just better for all of us to grab some good and less good domains ? :) as long they wont touch our .com .net ... even let them release .sex .porn domains , but as far as i see it from SEO point of view google & yahoo just might give better ranking to .xxx domains to push them more and force more adult sites to transfer to .xxx

The .xxx thing in my opinion is something that will somehow take a spin on fucking with us in the future, if not than it's just another way for registrars to rip off another business type, in this case the "Oh so fat pockets of Adult webmasters" |
