Anyone know any good sites/articles on basic seo.

I know the basics like have meta tags, keywords etc...I'd like to read more.

theres a huge amount of info located in the archives here - I would search for posts by Danger Dave or Bill for a good start - there are also two boards that are good for mainstream SEO out there - PM me if youd like to know the addies.

And one thing to keep in the back of your mind - NEVER pay for SEO - its a waste of money!!!! (that includes submitting sites to SEs etc) - if you have specific questions please ask them here and we will give you the straight scoop

Thanks...I've been searching but all I was finding were aritcles that were really advertisements for seo.

I agree - no-one completely knows SEO because SEs keep how they calculate rankings secret so we have to guess and work from trial and error.

The basics of SEO are simple (more advanced things can get complicated) - but here is some basic rules:

1. Write for search engines - don't spam - but make sure you have plenty of keywords in thier and the keyword density is quite high. I think 5% to 15% is about right but I'm not sure off the top of my head.
2. Get back links - the more links to your site the bigger SEs think your site is. One way links are best (ones that are not recipped back) but they are harder to come by.
3. The words used to link to your pages (including those in your site) should be keywords/phrases you target as SEs use these as a big weighting for your rankings for keywords.
4. Where links to your site are i.e if they are on a site that ranks well for the keywords you have then it helps your rankings more than a link on an unrelated page.
5. Don't duplicate content on your site too much. - You can check between your own pages to make sure they are different enough - see tools on this thread http://www.greenguysboard.com/board/...ad.php?t=17424
If too much is duplicated then SEs will ommit those pages from search results which you don't want.
6. Build lots of pages - more pages and SEs see your site as being bigger. Consider your site as a web catching surfers - the more pages the bigger your web and the more surfers you catch.

8. Make sure you include titles, meta descriptions in your site and have them individual for each page.
9. Link well within your site - the more your pages link to each other the better - a site map is very helpful and SEs love them.
