TGP - 2257 = more outlinks which..

Hi I just started getting into a bit of TGP'ing and seem to have hit a problem.

A lot of the scripts seem to restirict you to 2 / 3 links - as I now have to include a 2257 link when pushing US programmes this means I loose a link.

Anyone got any ideas of how to work around this?

list the 2257 url at the bottom of the page, but don't link it

SmithsMedia 2005-06-20 07:43 PM

I thought of that - is that pretty much OK with most people / TGP owners?

Toby 2005-06-20 08:17 PM

It's fine at both of my TGP's, but then I don't require a 2257 link on the page at all. That's entirely up to the submitter, I'm not going to be the 2257 police.

Yo, Smiths! I had the same problem when I started making TGP galleries. Now I just put a 2257 disclaimer at the bottom and put a link (not linked) to my custodian of records page on the same domain.

I think that the new law states that it has to be an actual link & not just the unlinked URL like you could do in the past (but I'm not a lawyer)

ponyman 2005-06-20 10:34 PM

WOW, that does not make any sense to me! As long as the link to the info is there, why should it make any diff whether you can click on it or just have to copy and paste it or type it in? |angry|

That all depends on the interpretation of the phrase "major entry point". If a single thumbnail gallery page is considered a major entry point for your domain, then a 2257 statement on the page is necessary in order to be compliant.

As I see it, if a thumbnail gallery page is a major entry point, then you'd better put a notice on the bottom of every web page on the domain.

I think this is one of the "vague" items the FSC's TRO refers to.

One would think that by submitting a gallery to a TGP & them listing it, that page would be an entry point, since it's the 1st page the surfer sees on your domain when they come from the TGP.

But I'm not a lawyer & really don't care who walks what line :)

I don't consider anything a major entry point until I have thoroughly reamed it out with my cock. :D My opinions about 2257 aside, I find it very strange that so many TGPs are requiring 2257 info galleries as if it is going to somehow save their own asses. It's just another result of armchair lawyers spouting on about their personal interpretations of a regulation that is bound for the grave.

As I am still learning here. Ill throw it out thre. Would'nt you be able to make a footer page that all your pages reference? Place the 2257 on the footer.

Toby 2005-06-21 01:16 PM

Even if you were able to insert a footer automatically, it would still be a link that gets counted by the submit script.

SmithsMedia 2005-06-21 01:39 PM

this is yet another issue we all face, I have done as you guys said on my last submit and include a url thats not linked. only time will tell if the gallery is rejected or listed.
