are people bailing out??

Just wondering if anyone has noticed there seems to be quite a few LLs out of service lately :(
has anyone heard of any shutting down or is it coincidence?

Yeah, I've noticed it too lately. But I don't know about shutting down, people got a lot of work on their hands with the new 2257 shit, so they are probably just cleaning out their databases, establishing new 2257 submission rules, modifiying scrips, etc. Either that, or they have their own freesites/galleryes/hubs to be concerned about or change content on and don't have time for reviewing.

Xeno 2005-06-25 04:23 AM

I know a few have been up for sale but a couple have been on personal basis...as johnny just said, most are probably going to be busy cleaning up some links in their database from webmasters who closed their sites....

I don't think you have to worry about too much with LL's or Link Directories. I can guarantee you I won't be selling or closing down my link directory...things are just getting good, not to mention the fact I am about to upload a newly updated 69toplinks by Sunday night :)

Mishi 2005-06-25 06:42 AM

I am way behind on reviews, as I figured (rightly, as it turns out) that a lot of submitted sites might disappear after 6/23. I'm about two weeks out.

PS: To link list owners that are just now getting around to the sites I submitted in 2003: They are all gone right now. Don't bother. In fact - even if they come back, don't bother. |ohhhhh|

Jim 2005-06-25 08:54 AM

I have a lot of friends that have closed sites and deleted content. I just wish when this is over with and nothing happens, we could sue the fear mongers so it never happens again. These people are putting friends out of business.

RawAlex 2005-06-25 10:35 AM

My bot in findpics has removed probably 20% of all sites listed. In at least one case, someone submitted a site on the 21st and pulled them all on the 22nd. Nice.

Some link sites stopped accepting submissions while this was going on, using up their backlog and waiting it out. Many link site operators were busy replacing banners and tracking content. They didn't have time to review stuff. It is better to shut submissions off than it is to end up wieht a month long backlog - especially if sites in that backlog are going to disappear anyway!

It is a tough time for everyone. I am not sure when this is going to get better.

Once I figure out how to set up a cron job I'll start running my bot. Will be interesting to see what it finds. :D

Anyway, haven't noticed any decline in submits, I'm getting approx 10/day as usual.

Linkster 2005-06-25 12:05 PM

Well - I guess Im the exception - my submit page is up and running - and collectively banning every friggin submit that comes in from the damn autosubmitters - already in the last 24 hours Ive added 50 more people to the blacklist - of course thats not real people - just different names for the same person.

Mishi :) caught yours yesterday - let me know when youre back and send me over a list of what you want added in :)

MadMax 2005-06-25 12:44 PM

I'm still takings submits, though my backlog is now 11 days :(

I won't stop accepting submissions, Fetish Philes isn't going anywhere and is in fact getting geared up for an expansion, and then I start work on a new LL. This isn't scaring me out of business, and since when I started I could only afford old content most of my free sites have pre-1995 content and are fine :)

I don't see a good reason for a LL to shut down over this, unless the owner has decided on a 100% bailout of the biz. That would be a damn shame.

Mishi: Deleted yours yesterday, thank's for the thread with the head's up :) Email me before resubmitting and I'll hook you up.

ponygirl 2005-06-25 10:44 PM

Well I'm glad to hear that for the most part anyway, it's business as usual :)

just seemed that I'd been doing a bit more re-organizing of the recip tables lately...recips for LLs that are closed for backlogs or whatnot stay on anyway, I figure I'll get them in when they're back up -plus I'm too lazy to delete them after they're uploaded lol :D

Any links to who has gone down? I've been to busy to notice. Guess have to check them too.. geezz.

Well, except for friends, people bailing just means more for those that stay..:)

Linkster and MadMax, thanks very much. |blowkiss|

eman 2005-06-26 05:51 PM

Over here at Hadafew we're accepting partner requests as per usual. We've deleted something like 1500 sites in the last 24 hours, but don't let that put you off.

CaptainJSparrow 2005-06-27 07:35 PM

Debauchery is up and running and still accepting submissions. I've been in this business since 1996 and have heard "the sky is falling" more times than I care to remember. I agree with Jim, I think that this 2257 business will just blow over and everyone that panicked is gonna feel a bit embarrassed. I really think that 2257 is obviously illegal (and unenforceable) and will certainly fall as soon as it is challenged in court.

Linkster 2005-06-27 08:17 PM

CaptSparrow - good to see ya posting :)

And totally agree with you - we made it through the COPA twice - and even thought for a while we were all gonna have to be behind AVS's - man that was a long time ago LOL

Thanks Linkster...I try to post only when I have something (that I feel) is relevant to say. I do pop in and read fairly often. In this instance, I've just seen lots of folks change their whole business model in the past because of rumors and supposed laws that were gonna upset the whole industry. In every case, the changes and laws have been overturned and nothing happened.

Btw, I know this is off subject, but Spaceman Spiff and I are going to Internext in August...you going? I haven't been to one in about 5 years and thought I'd pop in and see who I still know and hopefully meet some of the good folks, such as yourself, that we "work" with.

JohnnyR 2005-06-28 02:10 AM

ontopic: what I don't get with the 2257 thing is how the mainstream media doesn't feel a bit allarmed by the situation. Shouldn't they SAY something? Combine this with the law about ISPs keeping logs of everything their clients do online... well... maybe they'll get it when it comes to that.

offtopic: ponygirl, the webmasters link on LiquiSeXXX is taking me @ strange places... Do you take submissions on that LL? thx

Linkster 2005-06-28 08:59 AM

CaptSparrow :) Yep - Ill be there - Ill either be at the bar by the pool or the bar under the escalator LOL
