Tragically, that's the way it goes in Pakistan...and Iran....and Saudi Arabia (our partners for middle east peace).

"Mai spoke out against her rape, leading six men to be convicted and sentenced to death."

That's how you deter against repeat offenders.

Too bad the following paragraph:

"But in March 2005, a Pakistani high court overturned the death sentences of all six men and ordered five of them freed. The sixth man's death sentence was commuted to a life sentence."

That's how you not deter repeat offenders.

Oh yea, these are the people whose culture is so "special" and "valuable" that we need to respect their rites, and god forbid, accidentally handle their "book" wrong.

Right.....
You wanna find the root of all evil? Look to any religion, all religions.
If it weren't for religions we wouldn't have a definition for "evil," now would we?

But every one of us know that what they did was wrong......no religion needed.
