free sites and counters on them..

Hello,

i didnt submit any free sites in the last half a year..

ok i know about server stats and i have them actually.. but i need to track which sites were listed by which link lists etc.. so i could ask link list owners why they havent listed any actualy site..

how do you track it guys ?

the way i see it is to put up some invisible counter on every free site to track referrers for each site.. what do you think about it ?

thanks

It would want to be very invisible because it will get you blacklisted! I track mine using server stats and/or just going and checking once in a while at the link lists to see if my sites are there. But then I no longer waste time submitting to more than the top 16 or sometimes 32 link lists.
Um am I right in understanding that you want to ask us why we didnt list sites 6 months ago? At best it would be a guess...

ehehehhe no ;)

i just wanted to know the best way to track link lists which listed my certain free site and which didnt.. i cant see this in the server stats since they give overall domain stats ..

Anything with SCRIPT in it is a bad idea...

Get your host to install AWSTATS, that should give you enough info.

Hello, RawAlex

is it possible to track not just whole domain but create different accounts to count traffic for each free site individually with awstats ?

currently i use webalizer and i dont see such option there..

thanks

No, I don't think any stats program will give you referers by page (at least not easily). However, I have a tip for you: DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!

Look at your overalls. You will see referers. You will see who is listing you and who isn't. Don't worry too much about individual sites, just keep building. Check to make sure the places you submit to show up in your overall refers, and work from there.

Your driving yourself to drink looking at WAY too much detail - for very little return.

I think external software must help to track each site. It need for removing LL's recips that not listed sites sometimes. Thus LL posters will keeps their PR better.
But this kind of sofware doesn't exist yet as i know

I agree with Alex, the benefits of spending time checking who listed each site are too small to bother with. What I do is every few months or so I check my referrer stats and any linklists that are under a certain number I remove from my list and try a couple of new ones. The only way to make money with free sites these days is to build build every day and don't look back. (hmm except when you have to go and take down fucking sponsor banners and content due to stoopid new laws lol)

Jakudza 2005-07-05 05:55 AM

why i want to do this:

first of all..
i'd like to know the reason why certain link list doesnt list my certain free site.. i see a lot of threads like that of ppl asking why their site isnt listed somewhere. i dont want to check it all by hand.

2nd ..
if link list didnt list my free site i dont want to keep his recip on my free site.. no traffic, no link back..

it depends on how you work with it.. if you dont make templated sites it takes you much more time to build so i dont want to build and forget it.. at least not so fast ;)

i'd prefer to build less but more quality

I think Swedguy has come up with a solution that might work for you. There's a demo on his submit page.

Id like to see examples of the code that get inserted for the three types of "counters" that the software is installing - Id think that at least one would trigger a ban - but Im doing some assuming here as it sounds like one of the methods is javascript - which is something just about all LLs look for and ban for immediately.

SI, the question is effort versus return. The time to check the actions of a previous free site is time lost not building the next one. Time spent playing with existing sites is time lost from developing new ones.

I know this problem because I have a large number of domains (I won't even say how many) and during this whole 2257 situation I have been forced to go back and review all of them (and I am still not done yet) mostly looking for sponsor content and such.

During that time my business suffers a bit because I am not building new stuff as much as just sweeping the floors of the old stuff.

:)

Correct, one of them is javascript. That's why there's 2 other ways to do it.
I just added the javascript if people are tracking other things than free sites :)

Install Wusage stats on your server for more info then AWStats give you.

I'm sick of free sites trying to set a bunch of cookies so now anything that gives me a cookie warning on a free site it gets deleted.

Sewdguy, do I get a commision check? :D

What about a tracker (i.e. counter) that just uses an image HTML code?

For example,

It doesn't involve any javascript or cookies.

EDIT: I looked at swedguy's demo code and I used to use the PHP include version I wrote but its a pain in the ass when moving servers, etc.

I guess what I'm thinking of is the java/img version except no javascript.

No counters here, period! I wasted too much time getting iframes off my pages due to their crap!! |angry|
