Whats a domain name worth?

Possibly looking to sell one of my domains.
www.asscenter.com
I've looked at some "Free Domain appraisals" sites and they list it at anywhere between $700 - 20K.(20K would be AWESOME)
Thats quite a big range.
If anyone has recently sold domains and have a ballpark figure what its worth, Please reply.

Thanks

Is there traffic and/or backlinks to it? Does it currently generate revenue? If not, it's worth $8.95

Backlinks 92 MSN, 2 Yahoo, 0 Google, Alexa rank 5,100,000......

$8.95

Fido 2005-07-07 05:40 PM

$20k? For what?

koolkat 2005-07-07 06:08 PM

A domain name is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. :)

willy 2005-07-07 06:29 PM

Uhhmmm whoever gave you that estimate is taking you on a ride. MAYBE if it was a three letter domain you could get close to 20k.
But I'll give you 599 for it.

599 pennies.

I agree with you, if there is no site developed, no type-in traffic, it just worth whatever someone is willing to pay... You just need to be lucky to find someone that likes this domain name and give you some good amount ... ;)

5.99 is pretty much what i would think.
And I know that the 20K was ridiculous, it was from some site on the net.

Thanks for all the replies.

If it get typeins you get get ok money for it (this one I doubt get many)
If it gets link traffic you might get something
If it doesnt get any of the above problably 5.99 or so ;)

I've got an 8 letter domain that the appraisal sites say $90k. That is 1/3 of what the latest current offer was.

Registered back when it took 3 months to get a domain name.

Linkster 2005-07-08 01:57 PM

hmmm - 8 letters eh? lets see f** ahhh never mind LOL

Ive got a 3 letter domain (well ok ones a number) that is about to get listed at somewhere in the 6 figure range - but then I see there are a few out there going for 7 figures still

jup and the above one doesn't get any real typeins...

alessandro 2005-07-13 09:28 AM

I'd say that if the domain isn't a short one or a super searched keyword itself to attract type-ins, then that domain is worth the work you put into developing it.

anything is only worth what someone else puts in your hand for it.....

I saw once a site that said I could by webcams.com for $200 I was just about to put in my cc when I just felt like something was fishy. I looked over the source of the page, found the text and it was not webcams but a very very clever font that made VV look like W. So that site domain name is now worth 2 cents in my book lol.

Hehe. I saw BMW.com for sale on eBay, so emailed BMW to let them know. It was really BMVV.com, but the guy never had it typed in. The only place you saw the domain name was in a graphic where he had obviously shrunk the character leading so that there was only a cunt hair of space between the two Vs.

I have sold some domains over the last year or so, and the value of a domain really is in what people would pay for it.

I have let two word adult domains expire because they were worthless - not enough searches, not enough type ins, and not enough demand for those words. I have had people pay me insanely high amounts of money for three word domains because they wanted those three words.

I have a 4 letter domain (fook.com) that has been on the block for a while. It's a tough sell (it is a common symbol for luck in chinese). I have a number of offers on it, but nothing approaching it's true value.

Someone not long ago offered me 1k for a domain getting exactly 50 type ins per month. He wanted to those type ins. He owns the domain.

Value is... whatever it is.

Alex

Maybe you should market it to Austin Powers fans. Austin with Fook Yu and Fook Mi
